pabloh20 1 Report post Posted December 15, 2006 You can invent them but the trick is to make sure no one else in the world would want to play the sport so there is no chance of you being beaten. The English keep inventing sports which are fun to play and as a result that sport grows in popularity all around the world and you eventually get beaten by other nations. The Americans have the correct idea, they created a form of football which no one else in the world would want to play and as a result they cant be beaten in that sport by all those pesky foreigners. Stop being controversial!! I thought the trick was just to carry on being good at the sport Mind you, we're still quite good at boxing........

Shane2 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2006 And snooker, british snooker players kick butt. Our total was not brilliant, but it is better than i expected given we where 6/122 at one point. The game is not lost yet, depending on whether they can curb Australia's run scoring.

Shane2 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 I still feel we have some promise for the future though. When Australia stop being able to rely on the fat leg spinner, and old ugly seamer, we will pulverise them. Most of Australia's success centers around warne, and they will struggle without him. Shane2 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2006 Hes ok, i was just taking the pee i got nothing against him, i just feel that a lot of the Australian success revolves around the 2 of them, and i feel without them Australia may find things a bit harder (in the field mind you not with the bat)
ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 I just heard rumours on the news which said that both Shane Warne and Glen McGrath will be retiring after The Ashes.
ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 Warne, McGrath pull stumps SHANE Warne and Glenn McGrath are poised to announce their retirement from international cricket at the conclusion of the Ashes series in Sydney next month. Warne, 37, was poised to announce his retirement as early as tomorrow, with McGrath, 36, expected to follow suit, Channel 9 reported tonight. The pair would play for Australia for the last time in the fifth Ashes Test against England at Sydney Cricket Ground, Nine reported. Cricket Australia would neither confirm nor deny the report. Cricket Australia spokesman Peter Young said it was up to Warne and McGrath to make any announcements regarding the future. "There is nothing we can say," Young said. "Those two players are the masters of their own destiny and the owners of their own futures and when they announce decisions on their futures is up to them." Young said he was not in a position to say whether McGrath or Warne had contacted Cricket Australia. Warne, who is on the verge of taking his 700th Test wicket, most likely in the fourth Ashes Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground, is believed to have spoken to Cricket Australia's senior management last night. Warne, Test cricket's leading wicket taker with 699 dismissals, is expected to make his announcement in Sydney tomorrow. He is expected to accept a position on the Nine television commentary team after the Sydney Test. The television station, which broadcasts cricket in Australia, and which has used Warne as a part-time commentator in the past, said he would hold a press conference on Thursday to announce his career was over. The controversial spinner, named one of Wisden's five cricketers of the century in 2000, hinted at retirement earlier this week after Australia crushed England in the third Test at the WACA Ground in Perth to reclaim the Ashes. "These are the things you're going to miss," he said as the crowd and teammates celebrated the win. "I'm closer to the end than the bloody start." McGrath is the third-leading Test wicket taker in history, and his loss combined with Warne's departure would represent the end of a golden era for Australian cricket. Teammate Damien Martyn made a shock retirement from all cricket just prior to the Perth Test. http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,,20958083-23212,00.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is certainly going to make things interesting. Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne have been the backbone of Australia's bowling attack for over a decade and im not certain we have the bowlers to replace them. Loser Boy 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 I don't give a f*ck about Shame Warne, but Glenn's a legend & a nice guy! I'm reminded of Mick Shagger's,sorry Jagger's words about McGrath . His words were "That McGrath, what a b@stard!"
Loser Boy 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 Just a thought, I wonder if the aussies, poms, indians, south africans in this forum could come together to play a cricket match? I will be a fast bowler! But I'm hopeless at batting...a coward to face fast bowling!

ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 I have a unusal batting style. I suck at shots on the offside so what i started doing istead of playing cut shots i started playing reverse sweeps and even reverse hook shots which really made the keeper behind me Sh#t himself sometimes as i tended to do a half turn and smash the ball directly at the keepers head. aussief1 4 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 If you pay for the tickets, i'm in Same here I've heard that Glenn McGrath will continue to play one day cricket and then announce his complete retirement from International Cricket after the World Cup in the West Indies. I guess we will have to wait until the press conference in a couple of hour's time to know more.

ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 I once got out a young NSW player when i was bowling afew years ago. He was hitting all our bowlers out of the park so i was brought up (which shows how desperate my captain was) and he hit two sixes in my over and on the last ball he went for another HUGE hit and he was caught on the boundary. ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2006 I have never really played in a team in all honesty, i tended to only play the game for fun. Ive been in a proper team but in all honesty i am a rather bad player. The only 4 i ever hit was when i tried a straight driver and edged it through the slips where it went for 4. Also in about 4 years of playing i took about 10 wickets which isnt a great average. But in my defence one of my eyes dosent work too well so my vision of the ball on the leg side is abit poor.
