Yes, my real life kept me a little too busy lately and also have a problem with the Simulator. You see, a wonderful thing about new computers is that they generate much more heat that they can handle. For people that lives in places with air conditioning that usually goes unnonticed. For losers like me, who have no a/c, it becomes painfully obvious that whenever the thermometer shows more than 20

If your computer is playing up because of heat there is something wrong, modern computer hardware is engineered with very strict tolerances on heat, and it really should not cause applications to crash. A couple of years ago we where experiencing 40 celsius days in the summer and my computer still behaved itself. Maybe you need to go into your bios (press F2 or Del on startup). If you have an AMD CPU make sure Cool n Quiet is turned on, if you have an Intel CPU, try and activate speedstep.

Also, a point worthy of note is that modern PC hardware is actually being engineered to produce smaller dies (45nm CPUs and 55nm GPUs) which should reduce the thermal envelope of those parts considerably when compared to, say, a Pentium 4 CPU (yep a dual core Core 2 Duo CPU will actually consume less power and produce less heat than a Pentium 4)

I have an Intel CPU so I will try to find that option in my BIOS, thanks for the advice!

My computer is a Core Duo, actually, with a GT8600 (or is it 8600GT?) NVidia card. I also believed when they told me about the less power and less working temps and such.

But when it started freezing like my old Pentium 4, I went berserk! I changed everything on my old Pentium 4 and still it kept frozing. I thought this would not happen with my new one! Still, it only freezes when it is too hot here, so I guess it is really something about room temperature, or maybe a crappy CPU fan.

Can you monitor the temperature of the CPU while it's running? If you can, that might be a useful check. Then you can go from there: check the fan, otherwise maybe it's a faulty CPU etc?

All the programs I saw for monitoring the CPU temp are only useful if I am not running a full screen graphics application like a game. Couldn't find one that lets me monitor the temp while running a game. And my computer only crashes when running games like Bioshock or the FlighSim.

The CPU was checked twice at two different technical stores. They kept both games running for a whole night without any troubles. Of course, they have rooms with air conditioning

Everything points at some kind of overheating freeze. I must confess I haven't tried to run the FlightSim again in a while. I might as well give it another shot.

Why don't you volunteer to stay overnight, hugging the PC to keep it warm through the lonely night?

Well, it's a difficult problem for you, but if it only affects your gaming I guess it's not such a huge thing. Maybe ask Paul, or Cav? I think this forum is full of computing experts.
