Lucas Levia for next Prime Minister

I've signed

He'd be as useless as that as he is as a footie player!

EDIT: holy f*k, he scored a goal today, although against Newcastle, not surprising!

I have nothing to add.

But here's as good as any to post this little gem:

The whole world needs a Leader Like This!

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:

'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. '

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented.. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

You know what though, I am yet to meet a muslim here who is unaccepting of our beliefs. Yes Christians cannot post fliers through peoples doors etc, but there are churches here, and the locals do not mind one iota! They are generally very welcoming and in actual fact they are fascinated a lot of the time by other peoples beliefs, and also enjoy sharing their beliefs, and on a whole, most people here live in harmony. There is little discrimination against other religions, little crime, no fear of terrorists. However some who I know have actually told me they are disgusted how many muslims go to other countries and expect them to move heaven and earth for them, just because they are Muslim. They do not like to associate themselves with a lot of Muslim expatriates, terrorists etc as they feel they give all muslims, who are generally peaceful people a bad name. Also many here are not fond of the Saudi's as they feel they are behind the times and are holding onto a culture that is totally irrelevent to modern times, such as men and women not talking to each other, women walking behind men etc. So yes, some Muslim's and some countries here in the Middle east are behind the times and do expect you to change everything just for them, but the majority from the more liberal states do as I've just said, and are very welcoming. They would agree with Kevin Rudd as thats what they expect from the expats living here, by all means keep to your religion, your beliefs, but you live in the country so mutual respect needs to happen, and inevitably it does.

Saying that however, Human Rights are distinctly lacking here in some areas and that is one thing that Dubai, and the UAE must improve on!

And that is a good example of why I don't like religion....

Ayup.....but without it, why would we have any reason to hate the next person?

Well, I guess I'm in the minority here, but...

Other than it being aimed a specific group of people (I have nothing whatsoever against Muslims...I can't say I know many living in the least diverse town in the country, but the few I do know are absolutely great people), and other than me not really knowing if Mr. Rudd has a good reason to say what he said, I'd really have to say I don't find much wrong with it. I like it, for the most part...

...But, you know, I'm a white Christian minor (only included the minor part because I think whenever I share an opinion on something like this it's worth noting that I'm absolutely as far from qualified to talk about it as physically possible), so I guess that plays a part in it.

As for the actual topic of this thread, I have nothing to say, other than thanks for educating me on the name of the British prime minister. I wouldn't have ever known.

If it weren't for the Catholic charities in my home area, my aunt would be homeless.

Don't need to be religious to give to or setup a charity.

Yes but religion does have its benefits.

Not to start a super religious debate, but...

Yes but religion does have its benefits.

Exactly. Charities with religious affiliations tend to attract people within those religions...without that affiliation, I'm not sure it'd be as easy to get people to donate or volunteer, simply because there wouldn't be any organization to promote the charities and get the word out. More often than not, it connects people in a positive way (we're just shown all the negatives because it's more of a story), and that's just a good thing. I've supported a few charities with my own money at school, and if my school hadn't done an organized collection, I wouldn't have donated...not because I don't want to, but because I wouldn't have really thought to do it, or known to do it. I think it's the same with religious charities. And I do think a lot of religious people tend to trust those charities more, whether that's right or wrong.

But whatever works for you. I did the agnostic thing; life just makes so much more sense for me since I re-became a Christian about one year ago. Individual results may vary, and I'm by no means promoting my faith, or saying it's right, or saying anyone should adopt it...for some people, no religion is just the way to go, it makes sense to them, and that's cool. I can accept that.

Everyone who works on Sundays? I had a feeling all those Priests must be stoned.

Ding Dong! merrily I'm high

In heav'n my head is ringing

Ding, dong! verily the sky

Is riv'n with angel singing

Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis
