Guilty Pleasures

Recommended Posts

Teams are launching their 2010 steeds and testing will be starting soon but until that first race weekend is upon us I can't quite get my blood up. That's the extent of my justification for starting a new thread here in the chic Cafe. O.K., I think we all know what a Guilty Pleasure is but to paraphrase an accepted definition, "Something one considers pleasurable despite the guilt over enjoying it. This could pertain to music (let's say you're a closet ABBA fan :)) or consuming certain junk foods or watching afternoon soap operas. This should not be confused with Schadenfreude, and that should not be confused with shagging Freud. Sorry, I'm wandering.

So, belly up to the Cafe and confess to one or more Guilty Pleasures. Rightfully I'll get the ball rolling. I have a weakness for cheesy 1950's science fiction films. It doesn't matter how ludicrous the plot or dialogue, nor how awful the production values may be, when I'm in the right mood I will sit and watch one. These should not be confused with better quality films of the genre from this period; I am talking about embarrassingly bad, Grade Z junk. Long may they wave.

Ermm...ok...

There's this...thing...with the gerbils...and loads of butter and...

(The morals of this story are: don't start a thread if you are not sure what we are capable of doing with it first :P)

Now, seriously: I'm a voyeur. Not in a strict sexual sense (altohugh voyeurism can be of course pleasurable in sex). I love to spy on my neighbours  Again, not because I expect catching them doing the "dirty thing", but it just fascinates me to watch the apartments from across the street and try to imagine what are they doing or thinking just from the few gestures and movements I can see from my window. My ex gf was the only human I knew that understood this kind of ant farm voyeurism.

That's what happens when you have had no TV for 5 years, I guess.

Guilt and pleasure don't really mix for me, as far as I can think...

It's not like I feel guilty when I indulge in eating lots of junk foods, which is quite regular (Eric, feel free to do your standard fat joke against me any time you read this, and I know you will, ya little...), anyway.

Actually I thought about it some more, I felt kinda guilty lately when I was watching the reality tv show 'Celebrity Big Brother'. I felt kinda stoopid because it's pretty trashy tv imo, and I usually tend to think that people who watch it need to get a life rather than watching someone else's. Anyway I watched it and it was interesting, sort of, because of how stupid all of these supposedly famous, and successful (in financial terms) people were. Ah well, I can't be bothered to finish this post, so draw your own conclusions, like always. Bye.

Okay, I guess something that comes to mind is a Australian drama "McLeods Daughters" All about a group of women that run a family farm in outback South Australia. Always seemed to have me hooked for some reason :eusa_think:

All of the above.

Put this post at the end of the thread.

:clap3:

How many times have you watched Rear Window and wished you were Jimmy Stewart? (No, I mean besides the fact that he has beautiful Grace Kelly as his girlfriend.)

Perfect example; excellent post.

(Is it obvious I'm groveling?)

Another fine example.

So are these women, you know, attractive? Is there at least one reason per episode for clothing to be partially torn, or, perhaps, possibly, completely discarded? Is this McLeods Daughters something I can get through my regional cable provider? (As you can see I am desperate to rid my thoughts of anything to do with gerbils and butter as posted by a rude member.)

It's obvious, but that only makes it all the more effective. Please, continue!

And why would I want to break a leg and be bound to a wheelchair to do exactly what I am doing, anyways? :P

What I do wish is some kind of telescope or binoculars. Neighbours in this apartment are too weird. The ones from just across the street (one floor down), for example, seem to spend one or two hours every night just washing the dishes together. Fact.

Ed Wood is your God. Do see the epnonymous movie too.

Guilty pleasures, hmm. Sometimes the guilt arises from the negativity of the pleasure, sometimes from the money spent, sometimes from both. Pizzas fall into the 3rd category, for me. Lazing off, in the 1st.

Listening to Micheal Jackson....,

praising Alonso's driving,

driving my dad's car, (Eric calls it a van, while he himself drives a microbus)

listening to some of the Engima tracks,

eating Kebab, Pizza and Gelato..

having a crush on Steph...:D

wanting to murder that guy who drives an F40.....

Waiting for landslides to occur in a certain hill station so that the roads will be closed to the traffic and somehow sneeking in and taking the whole 60kms of hill roads, just for me and my friends to enjoy just drifting,..(ive done it twice, and I don't think I will be third time lucky)

:D, thats all for now...

A few years ago we lived at a 11th floor apart and on some hot summer days nights we used to take a bath in our children pool at the terrace totally naked; only glass of wine o champagne and the pleasure of "dolce far niente" and the suspect some of our neighbors are watching... :naughty:

I have a crush on myself too. :P

Watching the look on blokes faces when I get off my TL and take off my skid lid. Pure disbelief and wonder. It rocks!

Er. Will Smith.

Staying silent on my PS3 under my JudgementCut ID, kicking the Sh#t out of a player on FIFA 10, then speaking just before the game ends so they know they've been trounced by a girl. Great fun!

Er. Tom and Jerry.

The film 'The Green Mile' and this goes against anything I believe as stated re: religion, but 'Passion of the Christ' always without fail makes me cry. The brutality, the emotion. Tears me up.
