Most Overrated Drivers

Recommended Posts

1. Jacques Villeneuve. Won the WDC on the back of Hill's success and car.

2. Felipe Massa. WHAT? Why Ferrari

3. Chris Klien - Nice bloke, but not fancy on the track.

4. David Coulthard - Next year his year???

5. Antonio Pizzonia - pulled off some good drives, but cant hold it together consistently.

Welcome newcomer!

My answers are in consideration of the attitude of the media not forum bias. I agree that Massa is overrated but JV is certainly not overrated. He is often criticised and often justly. Similarly, no serious F1 aficionados rate Pizza Boy highly and I don

to say that he won on the back of dh's success shows that u were too small(young) to follow f1 back in 97

Oh here we go again

Do you know me? No. Then shut up.

He did win on the back of Hill's success. Thats my opinion. Tough beans if you cant take it. And I get told off for being too personal.

I don't mean disrespect to JV or his fans. So don't disrespect me.

@Senna - Hi and thanks!!

I say DC is over-rated in the way that "Its always going to be his year next year" its like his mantra or something!

A lot of people talk up Chris Klien to the hilt. I just cant see anything REALLY special. He does have flashes of the good stuff, at times!

As for JV - yes, he is a WDC. Yes, he does have talent when he wants to apply it. And yes, I will hold my hands up and say I have taken the mickey quite a few times this year over his driving. He is getting better though, showing a little of the old magic and outperforming his team mate on a regular basis - this is why I dont rate Massa at all.

I think the thing with JV is he started his career on a high, (having Hill as a team-mate and a Williams car as good as that helped) met Craig Pollock, joined BAR and it all fell down.

good thinking, but I believe that ole Craig has been sucking like a leech since J.V's CART days, I may be wrong.

Look at the profile of people before assuming they are a teenager / or other. Looks like all these assumptions being thrown around were wrong after all. ;)

I can't say I've ever heard Coulthard say any year was going to be 'his year'

If anything, all the "Next year is MY year" stuff that I've heard has come from the mouth of one mr Jensen Button... and maybe when he gets a DECENT car it will be, but I have to admit even I am getting sick of that and his contract 'troubles'. His actual driving I have no problem with BTW.

Closest to that I have heard from Coulthard was more along the lines of "we are going to do well in this race"... and that was back when he was partnering Mika at McLaren.

You have not heard of DC say that and call yourself serious F1 fan? ;)

Ok, seriously DC been making that claim each year for last several years with exception of this one i think.

maybe it was clouded by all the similar claims by Button ;) , I didn't hear any of it but fair enough, that doesn't mean he didn't say it.

1 - Button

2 - Webber

3 - Karthy (reffering to the start of the season)

4 - Montoya

5 - Alonso

OverRated ? what is O-R ? how ho know ?

rides a car better than he deserves ?

paid a money more than his rank is ?

JB is best driver ever in BAR (i see on achievements). Maybe in 2006 RB will be as good as JB, i dunno, but the fact is BAR (Honda) wants JB to stay - so he is NOT oveRated.

Webber - his way is Minardi-Jaguar-Williams and every time he is as fast as team-mate or faster ! NOT oveRated !

Karthy - Jordan is so bad in 2005, i cannot judje by just 1 season of NK, NOT oveRated !

JPM - Williams - now McLaren. as Webber, JPM is even or faster than a team-mate, but as in 2005 as in 2001 in his 1st season with new team, and a partner already was in a team, he loose some races to him, but some wins, and as with Webber - strong fight is present ! NOT oveRated !

FA - who can bet him as WDC 2005 just a year ago ? His results is really better and better ! NOT oveRated.

Who IS oveRated (imho).

MS - best driver, oke, but he is not as best as money he has =)

and if he is best, why he never raced same team with any champion ? kind of fear or phobia ?

JV - only strong 96-97 Williams have him wins, no way better driver than JB. (they are even now, imho)

RS - 2nd most payed driver - never was 2nd in WDC ...

TS - much worse, weaker than JV, and TS never deserved to be with BAR, good RB will come for 2006.

Who is 5th Most Over ? i dunno, maybe i could say after (or in summer) 2006.

Webber - strong fight is present ! NOT oveRated !

ok... .lets review his season so far (stolen from CC's signature on another F1 forum that ben found)

Australia - finishes behind DC in 5th

Malaysia - crashed with Fisichella

Bahrain - high speed spin

Imola - finishes behind teammate in 10th

Spain - qualifies 2nd, then is 5th into first corner after another s**t start.

Monaco - finishes behind Nick in 3rd.

Nurburgring - qualifies 3rd. Crashes into JPM first corner

Canada - 5th

Indianapolis - did not race due to Michelin tyre f**k up

France -finishes outside top 10.

Great Britain - another patehtic performance by Williams. Race is effectively used as a "test session"

Hockenheim - Webber hit by Sato at first corner. Out of race.

Turkey - had 4 tyre failures. Crash into Schumacher. DC labels Webber hooligan for on track antics.

Monza - first lap crash AGAIN, this time involving DC and Fisichella.

Spa - solid race to 4th

Brazil - first lap crash AGAIN, this time taken out by own teammate Pizzonia

Japan - 4th, not bad

Now care to put in the things around it? ie which were his fault and which weren't, other factors involved like many pitstops etc.

I'd say Spa was more than solid seeing as he made the joint most pitstops.

EDIT: You missed out Hungary now that was a good drive from near the back - where he qualified because he was basically first out due to Sato hitting him and VERY heavy on fuel.

Webber or HeidFeld - i dunno who is better.

By character i like NH more, and i remember F-3000, you know.

I just say MW is NOT oveRated, else Williams could easily take another driver last year: Pizzonia, Davidson, Wurz, etc.

I didn't notice, I copied and pasted most of it. So Sato and webber have hit twice?!

How many different drivers has sato actually hit this season? My guess would be a fair few...

edit: NOOO don't start webber v heidfeld again, it's been done to death.

Kup, webber is better than Pizzonia, Davidson and Wurz...

No Webber qualified low because he was one of the first out due to Sato hitting him in Germany ;)

Remember Sato messed up Webber's qualifying lap in Turkey as well...

Malaysia was official ruled as Fisi's fault - I think its fair to put that one in.

Webber is slightly overrated, by the media, as Jenson is but Webber moreso as Jenson has more talent. I agree with you, Michael is overrated as well, although, he is of course justifiably rated very highly indeed. Ralf Schumacher is the most overrated driver on your list. Why do you think that Jacques is overrated? Since 2003 he has been very poor

I think Michael was more to fault than Webber in Turkey, because Michael seemed very keen on keeping someone behind who was a lap down and several seconds faster - he believed he wouldn't make the lap up, therefore defending was wasting MS time and he should have done the smart thing and let him past, like Alonso has done - the attitude "If you aren't going to affect my postion, I won't let it affect my race"

He should have let Webber through and quit moving in the braking zones.

Why not? It was the beginning of the race and he was 2 seconds faster per lap.

Remember Webber was only a lap down because of his tyre - not because of his pace. To say if you are lapped you can't be unlapped is stupid - these are racing drivers, they don't follow each other in queues.

Michael of course also crashed into the other Williams in Australia.

Yes and that was more obviously his fault, although it was a similar thing that happened. It was good to see the rest of the drivers tell him he should apologise, although from what I read of DC it took some persuading.
