Kimi & Fernando Split Screen Driving Compared

Recommended Posts

Take it with a grain of salt as each driver has different car characteristics to compensate for.

Alonso deals with understeer by turning more sharply at the entry and controlling the car through the apex with many small steering corrections.

Kimi actually starts turning in sooner and is farther to the outside on turn it. He basically straightens out the corners. He also is deeper into the apex. (You can see this by playing the youtube and constantly hitting pause then play, over and over again, to compare).

Good video that shows how each driver handles understeer. Alonso turns sharply, inducing oversteer, and Kimi enters earlier and straightens out the corner. Totally different styles. If you want to compare them to past greats, Kimi's style is like Jim Clark and Alonso is like Jochen Rindt.

Saw it a few time's a little while ago and thought Kimi's car look's much smoother over kurb's and stuff and it reminded me...McLaren don't use the mass damper because they say their suspension is so advanced it does most of what the damper does for the Renault's. Judging from the comparison video the McLaren is proberly a much nicer car to drive, that's what a bigger budget get's you i guess...Ferrari's must be like driving on clouds

I noticed Kimi has a very smooth driving style with minimal steering input. The only missing information from the footage was the telemetry data showing throttle and brake applications.

From my memory of past TV feeds, both Kimi and Alonso brake hard, coast through the apex and are back hard on the throttle, letting the TC sort out any spin.

Yeah, i agree with Fed Up that Kimi raikonnoen has a smoother driving style than Feraando Alonso. They are both amazing drivers and as Autumnpuma said, their cars have very different driving characteristics.

The Mlaren seems the easier car to drive, mainly because Raikkonen sets it up to be like that, Alonso has an awkward driving style, he's going to be in trouble in any other car, it will take a while for him to adjust...troubled times ahead for the Mclaren team in 2007

Yes, Kimi's car set-up prowess has worked wonders getting him the WDC, hasn't it? That idiotic Alonso just can't seem to drive smoothly enough to win races, let alone the WDC...he takes a perfectly good car and ruins any hope of success by driving strangely with it. With his terrible driving style, I now know why Alonso can't produce the sterling results of his much 'smoother' teammate, Fisico.

Hey u, Leave Fisi alone, any good driver will beat him!!!!!!!!!!....shame ;)

yes Autumnpa, he's performance is largely based on a good car... when it's not properly set up by the TEAM, he struggles, hugely...

.....in your opinion.

It's a good thing that he'll be going to McLaren and can use all the past wisdom the team gained from working with the exhalted Finn and his multiple WDCs....

....BUT, if the TEAM have set-up Fernando's car, why haven't they worked the same wonders on Fisico's car? Certainly Fisi isn't THAT bad...? He's thrashed every other teammate he's had...

no, no, no...bad Puma. Stop trying to interject facts into Brad's argument...! :P

he(and pehaps raikonnen_dominates) are just fed up of the mistakes their "smooth as silk" driver makes, whilst Alonso took every one to the cleaners at the Hungarioring

 bulls##t. Renault is the best car to drive. Maybe you should ask Montoya? :P

Well, it was just one race, don't drop salt to my wounds... :(

No, he doesn't. :)

If you're intelligent enough to grasp it, no one really has a good case bashing Alonso (he is world champion and drove well this year), wether or not we like the way he did it, remains of personal opinion... all this is done in good nature.

But when d#ckheads like you start taking it too personal and worship Alonso at every turn is when i take the liberty to point some weaknesses which might assist us in comparing the 2 drivers, it's all about Kimi versus Alonso to me nowadays. Don't take life too seriously my boy, you'll end up missing the fun side of it...

 dont assume everyone is like you,my friend.

not every one is blinded by their "fanatical bias" that the whole world is part of the alonso worship club.Care to have atleast a miniscule amount of objectivity

???????

Oh sorry, i just got slightly confused by the statement above.... ;)

that's what i meant by you making an objective statement ,you think everyone is like you (defending kimi even whilst he makes a mistake at the same time ,failing to recognise that FA drove beautifully)

refer to my comments in other threads, i admitted i think Kimi made a mistake, but then Liuzzi having the gesture to apologise, then both drivers declaring it's a racing accident, questionable....

Alonso fantastic start was helped by following Micheal almost right to the first corner (he was so glorified for making up ten places), until Coulthard cut in, from there onwards i think he drove pretty well...

i dont really like to bash a driver, but i do that when they start sayin things like MY DRIVER IS BETTER THAN YOURS! thats when i also start pointing finger at a driver. but i do belive there are few drivers who dont deserve their rides.
