Official Pre-season Testing Thread

Recommended Posts

Formula One needs to have a qualy / shoot out style final test of the winter test before round one, where all the teams and drivers go balls out for a mega lap time in order to win some cash and prizes. MotoGp I think do or did something like this if I remember correctly. Someone maybe able to confirm either way. Whats everyone's thoughts on this??

I like the idea.

The testing program of the new aero:

On first testing session of Barcelona Kimi will still drive 2 days with old aero package , the new package will first be driven by Massa.

Then on the last test before the season starts Kimi will drive 3 days with new package and Massa will use the old Bahrain version.

Probably last a couple of races before the FIA ban it.

I can't see any reason why the FIA would ban the new nose on the Ferrari :eusa_think:

I've seen shots of the new nose and if they prove to be correct the opening is closer to the front and smaller than the diagram from the article Boudica posted. I guess we will have wait and see.

Pretty hectic testing coming up then. Not surprising since we're that close now.

---

As a fan of Alonso, i'm expecting NPJr. to absolutely kill him. :P

Seriously though, i'm expecting a very close battle but the Km travelled between the two is very uneven. Ah well...

no, by the time of the first European race Merc and a few others will have tested their own versions, the only problem is though that Ferrari have been working on this for about a year or more from what I have read

Apparently it is a very difficult design to copy.

Maclaren cant really copy it because their nose is to thin.

Of course it is all a bit of speculation really.

I too am quite intrigued, I haven't seen any photo pictures of it.

---

I was thinking about McLaren, opf course they would have no way of copying unless they scrapped their entire front nose and that might look suspicious after the year they have had.

It's not like it's a great deal away. We'll still get some enjoyment and information from it.

It's only going to affect those turning up. Everybody will want to see as many taems as possible, and/or their favourite team.

There is still conflicting accounts of who is testing tomorrow.

According to the circuit's own website McLaren will be testing on the 19th (only), and Ferrari on the 20th, 21st, 22nd but not on the 19th. STR & Honda not at all.

SA have offically pulled out of the test....Again showing the financial struggle at the team...

btw is this the last test before Australia??

Found the answer:

Super Aguri skip Barcelona testing

Cash-strapped team should appear in Catalunya

Struggling Formula One team Super Aguri, currently battling to survive a financial crisis, will not participate in planned testing in Barcelona this week, according to owner Aguri Suzuki.

"Super Aguri will not take part in testing in Barcelona this week because of elements out of our control," said Suzuki. "We plan however to particpate in tests from next week on the Catalunya circuit with two cars."

Super Aguri remain the only team to have not yet tested their 2008 car and had been expected to do so in Barcelona this week.

Last week in Jerez, the team's two drivers, Takuma Sato of Japan and Briton Anthony Davidson, drove a hyrbid version of their 2007 car with several technical improvements.

There are just two testing sessions left before the season begins on March 16 in Australia.

The Renault, Williams, Red Bull and Toyota teams will test in Barcelona from Tuesday to Thursday. Ferrari will stay until Friday, while BMW will test at the same time in Valencia.

The final session will be in Barcelona from February 25-27, and should bring together Ferrari, McLaren, BMW, Renault, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Toyota, Honda, Force India and Super Aguri.

So SA may launch their car next week??

Not looking good.

Hope they make the season.

Testing the 08 car in the final 3 days of testing is never good. Neither is not having your drivers confirmed 24 days before first practice....

SAF1 did have some running with the RA107 in the pre Christmas tests so the car won't be all that foreign for them but yeah your right they will be lacking in knowledge of the intimate details in setting it up, the fatory team had a whole year and they couldn't make the bugger of a car work, so god help them I guess.
