Apperantly the hole in the nose (Tombazis' idea) has been set aside, for now at least, it won't be introduced at this test, nor at the one next week. Anyway, Ferrari has brought over twenty new things to Barcelona (visible ones and ones inside the car). I don't think they're all on the car today already but important changes have been made to the wings, deflectors/barge boards, sidepods, diffusor, the weight distribution, suspensions, gearbox and mapping of the electronics. From this update an improvement of a few tenths a lap is expected.

Another, idea for the hole in the nose.

But of course it doesn't sound like it will be tested soon.

(Thanks to Manchild)

This post was particularly interesting. I'd like to read a detailed explanation of all these nose ideas and how they work (I'm sooooo nosey :P ). I can't quite imagine how this design would work simply by lowering the pressure through a passageway inside the nose. As drawn above, that will surely just create some internal forces that cancel out. To get more downforce I reckon it would have to either change the pressures above the nose or under the nose (hence altering the overall balance of forces) or alternatively there could be (and probably will be) a pressure gradient inside the passageway. If the curvature of the ceiling (ie the underside of the roof) of the passageway is greater than that of the floor of the passageway, as shown, then there would probably be a net downwards force from the air rushing through. I'm not sure about this, and other things to consider as motives for this change would be: how this affects drag, or airflow around the rest of the car.

Anyway, interesting idea. Maybe DOF can get us a technical article on it! Who's Manchild (apart from me)?

Info from TS:

The weather should be better on Thursday so we'll probably see McLaren on the track then.

As it's already been said here, Kimi has a flu and will test only on Friday when the track has been reserved to Ferrari for private use.

Then about the big fine McLaren got last year. Initially it was supposed to be paid by the end of February, but now McLaren has got with Bernie's help more time for it and can pay it in parts.

The track conditions are much better today, but there has still been a few incidents:

Heikki - Has caused 2 red flags already, once by coming to a stand still on track and the other reason is unknown.

Massa - Driving off track.

Webber - His car came to stand still.

Great to see Nelsinho and Nando's times getting closer!

I was worried we would have to hear another year of comments a la Alan Permane on Piquet's radio.

I don't see why SA can't get themselve some decent sponsorship... If Minardi could survive SA should be able to.

Minardi had some good cash coming in through their pay drivers while at SAF1, Honda want Anthony in the race seat and not a pay driver like Narain. Tricky situation indeed.

Anyway back to the testing times they look as confusing as ever but never fear Melbourne is just around the corner (well sort of) :D
