Taku, Williams gathered 88 points last year, despist not being impressive we were regular and effective. I agree with you on financial basis, however i think Frank is a very competitive man and if he thought that by letting BMW go Williams would be losing he would share a part of the team with them, i think.

I disagree, williams wouldnt ever sell of shares, they are greedy and want full control, well lets see next year shall we, they are gonna need a huge chassis advantage to be at the front, somthing i cant see as the chassis has always been their weakest department, funny, the one thing williams itself is!

Jenson_rules, see the races that Williams were most effective this year and tell me if they were "engine races", then you can talk about the chassis, BMW engines were very very very good at the beginning but came down this couple of years.

why is it that williams are always changing their chassis' and always correcting things like last year and the walrus and making too many mistakes. They only did well in a few races because bar and many others weren't up to speed yet!

Great news for Williams, they can put that money to good use. Its a pity they are stuck with Webber, I hope they sign a good driver for the other position.

Well now the driver market will really open up now. Can't say I'm happy that Williams is backing down, but money talks I suppose. Bad news for Taku though, what is Senna going to do now that he is out of F1?! :what:

Jenson Button will remain at BAR next season, if not for the rest of his career, after negotiating a release from his contract with Williams. Common sense and pound notes numbering an unprecedented

If i were Frank Williams i would give Albers and Davidson a go. Albers has done very well in the Minardi this year and some of the best drivers have come from Minardi, also i think Davidson would be a good choice because he obviously has alot of skill. Another plus about hiring either Albers or Davidson would be they wouldnt require as much money as what Button would ask for which they can use in development of their car.

Albers hasnt proved much, not enough anyway. And Rosberg is such a wild gamble, but then I suppose so were Button, Zanardi & Montoya when they made their debuts with williams. Williams 2006 -not looking good!

Albers has qualified very well all year round consistantly out qualifying bot his team mate and both the Jordens. Im not totally sure about his race pace but if its anything like his qualifying pace then hes got alot of potential.

I think to say that Albers has consistently outqualified his team-mate and both jordans is a bit of an exaggeration. Ask anyone they'll agree!!

We will see if Button can really be a world champion, as a Williams fan i think this is quite a good deal, we have already the engine paid and Nico on board for 2006 season, maybe we can have a good surprise by Williams.

Yes but Nick has been in f1 since 2000, beating Kimi & Massa as team-mates, Rosberg is very young and hasnt done anything in f1 yet except a few tests - its a risk. Plus they don't have manufacturer backing

Yep, agree with u, but Montoya didnt have F1 experience, neither Button, i think Frank is one of the best (if not the best) in evaluating a driver capability, and if you see with attention he made better choices in drivers without F1 experience than in drivers with that experience, e.g. Montoya & Button vs Frentzen & Ralf. In terms of the manufacturer as far as i know Cosworth agreement with Williams was "full-time", they agreed to partner and behave like a strong and good partnership, my opinion about Cosworth is very high, their engines this year had been one of the most reliables, Red Bull and Minardi aren

Frank also gave Alex Zanardi a chance - and he didnt score a single point! I hope you're right about williams. But these days it seems you need full manufacturer backing to succeed. And webber/rosberg is going to be 1 of the weakest line-ups

yep, slight exagherration! he has been consistently beter than his teammate and outqualified the jordans on occasion though.

here we go again. I'm not even going to bother - I watch f1 and I see how good Button is, so do the commentators, so do team bosses, so do his rivals - only some jealous people on this forum cant seem to deal with it

But in 1999 Ralf scored 35 pts, zanardi scored 0. Think that shows his ability in an f1 car. Nico hasnt signed anything yet remember!

williams shined for one race last year, and only one race this year too.

bar have been the best of the rest for many races now, and reportedly will be 100% owned by honda by the end of the year. this is a sign of a full frontal assault on the championship and the other big manufacturers, especially arch rival toyota.

williams is effectively now a privateer team, and will remain so even with toyota engines from 2007. they are no longer what they were and don't have the financial muscle to compete with the big manufacturers. i don't doubt that williams will bounce back, but a healthy resume means nothing when the competitive environment has completely changed.

Funny, BAR have had a great car for the last two seasons yet Jenson still cant get on the top step of the podium, I think he is a good driver, but not yet a great driver, why pay so much for a "good" driver that has not proved yet any winning ways in 98 starts all with very strong teams (Williams,Bennetton/Renault and BAR)???
