Andretti believes Schumi can race till 50

planetf1

Mario Andretti believes Michael Schumacher could race until he is 50 if the German driver so desired.

Andretti says that Schumacher could even go on to win many more titles if he is motivated enough.

"If Schumacher wants to, he can race until he's 50. It's just about motivation.

It is very possible that MS can race til 50. In the V8 Supercars there have been alot of drivers who have raced until their late 50's (Peter Brock, d#ck Johnson and Jim Richards) so if V8 Supercar divers can race when they are near 60, i imagine formula 1 drivers can race til their late 40's. I'd love to have DC competing in formula 1 for another 10 years.

In NASCAR there are many drivers older than 40... but this is only possible because the level of racing is so appallingly low. In modern Formula, it's impossible to compete with the youngsters on experience past say 40 and that's really stretching it.

But i think schumacher should think about all he has done and to think about Senna and Dale Earnhardt Sr. both of them were at the top of their career, and both died in a racing accident, schumacher has been at the top of his career for a long time, and should race no more than 2 more years

I think it is debatable.okay maybe beyond 40 is streching it but this is Schumacher we are talking about- a 7 time world champ, i agree with Mario in the sense that along with motivation you do need to have supreme fitness and at the moment i think MS is more fit than some(maybe most) of the grid despite being the oldest

Exactly. To be honest I suspect he's already been knocked off the very top of F1 by KR, FA and I will be surprised if the rate of decline doesn't keep increasing. Of course given a superior car he could still beat anybody but then so could Danica Patrick.

He is certainly still fitter than some(one in particular).

I think your suspicions are correct.

You obviously speak of Montoya whose fitness level approximates that of a mechanic moreso than it does a professional race driver.

:D While I believe Mario ranks in my top 3 drivers alltime, I'd hate to see Schumi run out the string in non-race winnig cars just to pick up a victory here or there............

I think that 2006 may well be his last season.

I think so. If he wins it will be the perfect end and if he doesn

i dont know, you guys are being a bit hard on him.

your practicly calling him senile, something he definately is not. also, he is the fittest driver in the field, not alot can bost of 6 hours of training a day when they are not racing. Also, i think this year was just a bad year, not even Senna could have done much more with the F2005. And as always, id like to point to Imola this year as a piece of evidance that he still is as capible as ever.

I think for Schumi to continue to race until 50 is improbable...however he is more motivated, fitter and more focussed than anyone else on the grid. The day he retires will be a sad one, I think the fact he is still regarded as the best driver in the world is 50% his talent and skill-and 50% superior attitude and ability adapt to new rules and regs, not wasting energy on whinging, whining but channelling energy to winning. If all drivers had his sense of humanity, sportsmanship, work ethic etc., the racing would be the best it has been in years without having to cut costs, develop weird wings, etc......Long Live King Micheal :king:

I dont know why you think jpm is unfit. He doesnt appear exhausted after races like some drivers do. His performance doesnt lapse near the end of races either
