After testing alongside the French team at the Barcelona circuit last week, the seven time world champion, feels that they are very well prepared for the rapidly approaching 2006 season and Honda is not that far behind them. "Renault looks well prepared, as well as Honda - they also look to be prepared. After them, BMW seem to do a reasonable job, considering it's their first car,” he told Autosport. "But, as I said, Renault seem to be best prepared - they are the ones to beat. They are looking very fast. This is the picture we get at the moment." There is still six weeks before the teams take to the grid in Bahrain and at this stage we don’t really have any ideas on the competitiveness of the new Williams FW28 as it has yet to test, however, hopefully this weeks test at Valencia will answer a few questions. As for the new Ferrari that was launched early last week, Michael is reasonably content. "We are quite happy with the new car. The last few weeks I, along with a few others have said the 3 teams to beat are Renault Ferrari and Honda. narain fan 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2006 Prior to the start of the Valencia test proper tomorrow, the WilliamsF1 Team rolled out their 2006 race car, the FW28, for its inaugural laps today. With Nico Rosberg behind the wheel, the team recorded 43 trouble free laps despite the poor, wet weather. Tomorrow, the team will start testing the new car in earnest, with the programme extending until Friday Feb 3 at the Spanish circuit. Commenting on today's promising progress, WilliamsF1's Technical Director, Sam Michael said, "Today was spent completing filming work with the FW28 before the proper testing begins tomorrow. It was cold and damp in the morning and then rain settled in for the afternoon." "Even so, we managed to complete a few systems checks on the FW28 with no problems at all. But all eyes were not on the Brazilian, but on MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi, testing at Ferrari for the first time together with other F1 drivers out on track. Rossi was unable to complete a lap as he spun after only just a few corners. In the morning rain halted testing. Only a few drivers went out for installation laps, but most teams remained inside. Honda drivers Rubens Barrichello and Anthony Davidson topped the time sheets. Michael Schumacher, testing the Ferrari 248, was third fastest in Valencia. Over a hundred persons of the press were at Valencia to witness Valentino's test. The Italian got into the F2004 in the afternoon but was unable to complete a lap unfortunately for him. Senna 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2006 ROSSI IN A SPIN AT VALENCIA ITV Valentino Rossi's much-vaunted first open Formula 1 test alongside other drivers turned out to be a damp squib as the Italian motorcycle ace spun off on his first lap at Valencia. Rossi was scheduled to spend the day driving a Ferrari F2004 fitted with a V8 engine but rain ensured he remained garage-bound during the morning. Ferrari eventually sent the multiple bike champion out on wet tyres only for him to spin into a gravel trap in front over 100 press representatives. Honda made the most of its day in front of the throng as former Ferrari star Rubens Barrichello and Anthony Davidson set the two fastest laps. Barrichello is clearly revelling in his new surroundings and both Honda drivers were under the 1m20 mark. While the Rossi circus played away, Schumacher got down to business in the new 248 F1. And though his best time was set in the F2004, his fastest lap in the new car would also have been good enough for third. Kimi Raikkonen was fourth fastest as he continued work on the new McLaren MP4-21, although the Finn only completed 24 laps because of the weather. Both drivers began with short set-up runs before practicing qualifying procedures to adapt to the new 2006 qualifying format. The drivers spent the afternoon session completing further set-up work, running on intermediate tyres as the track dried out. The test programme was completed with a second qualifying practice at the end of the day.
