bajo39 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 Now, that, ykick, is inflammatory and you got everything you deserved for that. If you can't take the crap, don't start the crap. Monza is 100% correct. Indeed, but I didn't see anything that Bruce said that struck me as particularly ignorant anyway...

goferrarigo 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 I said no such thing, I find cricket to be sleep inducing that's my opinon, if it had an audiance in America you can bet it would be on the tele, but that it isn't should tell you that there is no audiance for it here. Your problem is that you think just because cricket is popular in your country that it's loved world wide, other than the UK and it's former satilites I don't see that, is it popular in Russia, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Mexico, Canada, Japan, Korea, China?.....nuff said.............. not defending ykick but cricket is starting to become popular in non satelite states as well. Malaysia is the latest addidition to the international cricket scene

Geordie 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 I only watch highlights of cricket because It's not my cup of tea, but I get into now and again. It's funny Pumpdoc because I turn baseball, USFootball, basketball on If I can't get to sleep I really try to understand the point of these games but I can't stop laughing (I'm not being sarcastic). US Football Is laughable. Each to their own.

Shane2 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 I would not sat Cricket is the most exciting sport in the world by any means, which is why i personally prefer watching hilights (especially in test cricket), however i have always followed it with interest and i am glad the english finally took the ashes after all those years its just a shame that Darryl Heir and the Pakistan team had to make such a stupid spectacle. of the sport

I know it is not a big high profile country but it is only one reasonable enough to start competingwith the rest of the satellite states. Quiet One 15 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 ODI's i actually enjoy, i just cant sit and watch all sessions of a whole test I must be really bored to be reading this thread as I know nothing about cricket ("Stick and ball" sports as you call them are nonexistent in these latitudes) It just strucked me as amazing that cricket is the 3rd most popular sport in the world. Is that true? In what basis? No offense meant, just curiosity.
Shane2 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 I must say i also find that pretty surprising, but if you think about it, it does get a lot of media coverage
goferrarigo 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 ODI's i actually enjoy, i just cant sit and watch all sessions of a whole test i like only ODI's in which India is playing otherwise no. I like to watch full odi but time constraints do not allow me to, so i try to keep it in the backgroud. Tests only higlights if i remember, and india is playing. Cricket is so popular because the money involved, it. Betting is amazinly high and some matches are fixed so it becomes popular.

monza gorilla 1 Report post Posted November 5, 2006 3rd most popular sport in the world? I doubt that, but will be grateful for stats backing the claim. I'm the sad git who will happily watch every ball of a test match and thoroughly enjoy it............ Must get out more . I know nothing about baseball (except it's like rounders in pyjamas) or American football (except it's like rugby in body armour) or basketball (except it's like netball), so have no real opinions on them. aussief1 4 Report post Posted November 6, 2006 Anyways despite the debate on weather Cricket is interesting or not, Australia won the ICC Champions Trophy for the first time ever yesterday with a easy 8 wicket win over the West Indies. Bring on England for the first test of the Ashes Series on November 23rd.

Lure 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2006 The 20/20 sounds good. How you watch even a day of cricket is beyond me. I can't watch more than a few innings of baseball... I bought a 12-pack of tickets for the Blue Jays this season and went to 3 innings of the first game, most of which I spent molesting the girl I brought and then I didn't even bother with the other games, giving those tickets away. You wouldn't usually get to a game at the start (usually 2pm). Once you do arrive you start hitting the p**s. Once it starts getting dark yourself and the majority of the crowd are pretty drunk and the atmosphere starts to raise and the evening generally flies bye (finishing at about 10pm)! Only problem sis that they now only serve light beer, unless you are a memebr like me!!!

Is that true? In what basis? No offense meant, just curiosity. The fact that Cricket is popular in India and Pakistan make it so. They both have large populations. Cricket playing nations are: India Pakistan Australia New Zealand England South Africa Zimbabwee Sri Lanka West Indies ( which is comprsied of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago, and the British dependencies of Anguilla and Montserrat) All these coutries have at some point been part of the British Empire. Cricket is a refined sport that would not appeal to countries that like in your face entertainment and immediate gratification in a sport. I can't think of many sports that last over 5 days. Quite a mental challenege for the players. Few spectators would attend all five days, however many watch one day and then catch snippets on TV. Cricket can be a fantatic game to watch or it can be exteremly boring. Like most things it varies

ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2006 meaningless Well the stat which says that 1 billion people over 122 countries watch a one day cricket match in January 2005 is certainly not meaningless.
