Wez 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2006 According to the current Australian coach the new generation (between 16 - 25) is going to be Australia's "Golden Generation" which sounds promising. Well from watching the Aussie Cricket & Rugby teams over the years it does appear Australia have quite a talent for bringing the best out of their young sportsman. Say what you will but the Socceroos have had a good year and i believe we could make a contest of it. Using Croatia as a benchmark Australia had a draw against them in the World Cup but they beat England recently. Playing Croatia in Neutral Germany like Australia did is an entirely different ball game to playing them at home like England did!!!
ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2006 In all due respect though you have played only 3 good teams in that list, loosing 2 games and drawing the other.... Still Not a bad year though compared to past ones I guess. These are the teams which i think are of a World standard (correct me if im wrong) 2006 Results Qantas Socceroos vs Ghana 1 - 1 London (ENG) 14.11.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Bahrain 2 - 0 Sydney 11.10.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Paraguay 1 - 1 Brisbane 7.10.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Kuwait 0 - 2 Kuwait (KUW) 6.09.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Kuwait 2 - 0 Sydney 16.08.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Italy 0 - 1 Kaiserslautern (GER) 26.06.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Croatia 2 - 2 Stuttgart (GER) 22.06.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Brazil 0 - 2 Munich (GER) 18.06.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Japan 3 - 1 Kaiserslautern (GER) 12.06.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Liechtenstein 3 - 1 Ulm (GER) 8.06.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Netherlands 1 - 1 Rotterdam (NED) 4.06.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Greece 1 - 0 Melbourne 25.05.2006 Qantas Socceroos vs Bahrain 3 - 1 Manama (BHR) 22.02.2006 All up against those teams we only lost to Brazil and Italy. I wasn't being disrespectful about your team, as that would be stupid and inexperienced. Obviously, I would sort of be expecting England to win, but I never take anything for granted. ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2006 Well from watching the Aussie Cricket & Rugby teams over the years it does appear Australia have quite a talent for bringing the best out of their young sportsman. You can thank the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) for that as they train most of our young talent in most sports. What do you mean?? I would like to see a game between them too. I wasn't being disrespectful about your team, as that would be stupid and inexperienced. Obviously, I would sort of be expecting England to win, but I never take anything for granted. I expect England would win as well which is why i want to see a friendly game between us. Being the underdogs is great as you are not expect to win so if you loose its no big deal but if you manage to win then thats amazing. Being the favourite is terrible as you are expected to win and if you dont then the fans of that team will be extremely upset.

Greece are absolute rubbish nowaday, Paraguay And Japan aren't far behind, Ghana are no too bad by African standards. Fair enough on their day Croatia are a useful team... Im not slating Australia, because Im quite sure all the teams I just mentioned would stuff the current South African team
ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2006 I thought i would bring this topic back to the 1st page but i couldnt think of anything to say so i just found the Australia vs Uruguay match in December 2005. The match which got Australia into the World Cup for the first time in 32 years and the match which nearly gave me several heart attacks. THis video shows Australia's goal then the incredibly suspenseful penaulty shootout. This match also had the biggest crowd in Australian Football/Soccer history with over 90000 people attending. Jem of the Shire 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2006 And Spain, and Argentina. Dirty, dirty gits. I honestly think England are the 'cleanest' team in football, you never see deliberate driving or clutching of legs by us!!

cavallino 2 Report post Posted November 28, 2006 What countries are the worst when it comes to diving and other forms of cheating. I know the Italians are good at it but who are the best at it? Australians and Englishmen. But seriously you and Jem need to get out of that warped perspective that players from every oother nation except yours dive. I can only conclude that you don't watch any football, possibly just read about it in tabloid rags. Fortunately journalism standards in football in England are not as woeful as they are in F1, so if you stay away from those rags, the mainstream is still worth reading. And Spain, and Argentina. Jem of the Shire 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2006 I dont read any tabloids but i watch every england game and I dont recall ever seeing 1 of our players trying to fool the ref by rolling around pretending to be hurt, and then getting straight back up as soon as it becomes clear that its not working, something u see a lot of from other nations!! Shane2 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2006 And i don't see any of our drivers cheating or driving dirty either, that is reserved for Germans in red Italian cars (or blue and green as was the case in 1994) The worst countries for Diving are the Dutch, Italians, and French

cavallino 2 Report post Posted November 30, 2006 Jem I recommend you watch Argentina vs England, 2002 world cup. It would be instructive.. It is so bloody good to be home, isthere any place with better footy coverage anywhere in the world?
ykickamoocow 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2006 It is so bloody good to be home, isthere any place with better footy coverage anywhere in the world? You have spent too much time in Australia. The word footy is used to describe AFL (Australian Football League) and i dont think it is used to describe any other form of Football. I googled the word and the entire first page was to websites regarding AFL.
cavallino 2 Report post Posted November 30, 2006 bah I called it footy before I went. It is an affectionate term for the best game in the world, not my fault some people have stolen the terms footy and football for inferior games

I googled the word and the entire first page was to websites regarding AFL. Footy is used to describe AFL ?? Geez, you need to change your search engine - try google.co.uk . It's been called footy over here as long as I can remember and that's a fair few years now. I can only imagine it's the same for other places too.
