With Saddam Hussein about to be executed i thought i would bring up this topic.

I am personally very against the death penalty as i feel that the eye for a eye approach to justice is very archaic and brutal. What do you guys think?

Fuk yeah an eye for an eye, my first wife was murdered and her killer got off with less than 10 years, he got out and killed again, if they would've got the death penalty the first time another family wouldn't be suffering. Fuk them they didn't care when they killed, why should we? Make it painful and slow.................

A life sentence would work just as well in protecting the general public.

I'm very sorry to hear this Bruce. I can't imagine going through that and I'd probably feel just the same way in your circumstances. As it is, I want to give everyone a second chance, although it's easy for me to say that, never having had to cope with something like you have dealt with.

I hope so aswell but a life sentace in a maximum security prison is hardly living and their life where they have to sit in a cell for 23 hours a day with no entertainment whatsoever. This would happen for over 40 years which would be living hell. A person can be heavily punished without killng them. If you do kill in the name of justice then what makes you better than the actual murderer.

Thanks, I'm not looking for pity, far from it, but I detest people that think murders should be givin a chance, did they give thier victims a chance? did they care that they left loved ones without? So help me I'd pull the trigger on the piece of $hit that killed my wife...................

I agree with Capitial Punishment, but only when the accused is proven guilty beyond any doubt what so ever.

I would hate for someone to be dealt the death penalty for a crime they didn't commit.

I think it costs taxpayers less to just execute them than to store em up for life.

And get rid of this 20 years on death row Sh#t. You get one appeal. After that, I think its time for some good ole' fashioned fun.

Screw Lethal injections, bring back the chair, but tazer them in the naughty bits first. That way, they could shout "Hey! Numb nuts!" before a person affected by that criminal puts the switch on and fries them.

Any Cannibals in the house? Extra Crispy over here!

I am sad because he was killed today :(

Even when he was a killer, nobody has the right to kill anybody.

He was kill today, now what?, if we are going to be fear, we have to kill the people who kill him, and then we have to those new killers and so on until every killer is dead wich means that nobody will stay alive in the whole world.

Thoses who killed Saddan are killers, where is the justice now? aren't they going to be judge because of that?

That was no justice, that was revenge, let's see if they kill now thoses who killed him if they don't do it is because that was just a revenge.

Who are we to kill people?

What make us better than him?

Are we saints or perfects?

Tha bible teach me that if I sin I am as gilty as he is becuase i am doing something wrong too, something against God law, I am a sinner like everybody so if I agree is his death I have to be killed too, like anyone of us.

I hope that nobody take this as personal, that is not my intention but I don't feel in my best mood after this, is so sad to see people killing people becasue they kill people.

Now is done, now what?

I hope no one takes offensive at this but i truly believe that countries with the death penalty arnt as socially advanced as countries with dont have the death penalty. This is a map i found.

Death_Penalty_World_Map.png

Blue: Abolished for all crimes

Green: Abolished for crimes not committed in exceptional circumstances (such as crimes committed in time of war)

Orange: Abolished in practice

Red: Legal form of punishment for certain offenses

India have the right Idea

India disappointed by death sentence

INDIA, which had warm ties with the Iraqi regime of former dictator Saddam Hussein, condemned today's execution of the ousted president, a foreign ministry statement said.

"We had already expressed the hope the execution would not be carried out. We are disappointed that it has been,'' said foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee.

"We hope that this unfortunate event will not affect the process of reconciliation, restoration of peace and normalcy in Iraq.''

India's reaction came just hours after Iraq's former leader was hanged, as the violence-wracked country braced for possible reprisals by his remaining supporters.

India's former foreign minister Natwar Singh also said Saddam should not have been executed and expressed fears about the fallout.

"His life should have been spared and he should have been given life imprisonment. My own reaction is that it will arouse very strong passions in large parts of the world,'' he said.

Mr Singh was sacked from his post this year following his involvement in a UN oil-for-food scandal involving Saddam's former regime.

"The reaction among Indian Muslims too, certainly a large part of them, will be anger.''

India is home to around 130 million Muslims.

Oil-hungry India has traditionally sought good relations with its energy-supplying partners in the Gulf.

I too believe imprisonment was the better option.

I am against it in principle, it is not high on my list of things that need to be fixed in the world.

This is why I tell you to avoid that site, history is being rewritten already. India's 'warm' relations with Iraq never extended to complicity in crimes against humanity as America's did, yet not a word will be heard about how the Americans supplied and abetted him for years. That article is absolutely preposterous, and smacks of the kind of journalistic standards employed by rubbish publications like the Daily Telegraph.

I agree. If i didnt have a decent knowledge of Iraq's history that article could convince me that India somehow helped Saddam Hussein and supported him when it simply isnt true.

Not much less actually, and maybe more sometimes.

Great post! I never understand the American version of Christianity. It clearly preaches forgiveness in the Bible ("let he who is without sin cast the first stone" and all that) and America is the most Christian nation in the developed world, yet it is the only one to still have the death penalty. (Incidentally it also has some of the highest crime rates)

countries with the death penalty arnt as socially advanced as countries with dont have the death penalty.

Indeed. They often have high crime rates too.

We are talking about justice not revenge. I`m very sorry for your first wife and your/her family but I think your angry must be directed to those politicians involved on creating a so unperfect system! Mot to mention some lawyers...

honestly, i have a different point of view in regards to forgiving, forgiving a man who has committed crime towards you or has harmed you personally is your wish, but justice must be served for the innocent, if the criminals go unpunished there would be no one left in this world, its the fear of getting caught that restrains one from committing crimes, for example, if i am sure i will never be caught, i would kill gerorge bush (i use small letters for naming these guys because i have no respect for them), putin, pres of israel, bin laden, and Saddam. i dont include blair cos i think he is such a pussy. there are far better guys there in britan. but i wont do that, because i will be caught killed, or perhaps shot on spot! :P

I know that there have to be a punishment for a man who has committed crime but deat penalty is just to much, looking at it from a christian point of view if you kill some criminal you are sending him to hell, but if you let him in prision he at least will have the chance to repent and change to a new life just like Paul, he was a killer and then he became one of the greatest man of the bible.

I believe in the eye for an eye principle, so yes. I also feel that having your neck on the line is a much better deterrent than jail

Numerous studies have proven that the death penalty isnt a deterrent for people commiting crimes because they all believe they wont get caught so the punishment doesnt matter. Compare the murder rates of countries with the death penalty and countries without the death penalty and you will see what i mean.

As long as 'beyond doubt' is sorted - bring back the death penalty absolutely.

There needs to be a deterent (especially here in the soft, nanny state UK), and religion doesn't need to come into this - it's lunacy! Are we to say that if any of you had your children or loved ones murdered, you'd be fine with a prison sentence (in most cases under 14 years) and then let them free?

Furthermore, the relatives of the victims should be allowed to choose the method the murderers are to die, if they so wish.

And Saddam Hussain? He was a mass murderer for f**ks sake! The f**ker should have died far more slowly.

Zero tolerence, mmm, yummy.
