Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 Watched "Paranormal Activity" in the dead of the night. Truly, the scariest movie I've ever seen. My hairs were standing on their end for a good part of the movie (& even after it ended). I'm seriously afraid now. No exaggeration. The chills still aren't abating. I told you! It gets in your head and plays tricks. Superb concept and brilliantly done. Had to laugh when you said 'katie' was fit.
LabradoRacer 2 Report post Posted December 24, 2009 I told you! It gets in your head and plays tricks. Superb concept and brilliantly done. Had to laugh when you said 'katie' was fit. I saw all 3 endings. The theatrical one was the scariest, according to me. About Katie, I'm serious that she's sexy. I'd take her any day than a skinny heroin-chic skank. Saw David Cronenberg's mindbending 'Videodrome'. Though the main message of the movie easily comes through, the movie is open to interpretations. Or rather, it's futile to dissect, find out and separate the reality & fantasy parts of the movie.
LabradoRacer 2 Report post Posted January 3, 2010 I'm taking a longish break from movies. In fact, I'm already into my 5th day of movielessness. Anyway, got a few recos. South Korean movie 'Thirst' . Awesome movie on vampires, by acclaimed director Chan Wook Park. Name not ring a bell? Well, think 'Oldboy'. French horror movie 'Brotherhood of the wolf'. Thai horror movie 'Shutter'. English - '500 days of Summer', 'Straight Story'.

For the handful of Korean movies I've seen I have noticed that they have an almost operatic quality to them. When I say "operatic" think Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West. For the handful of Korean movies I've seen I have noticed that they have an almost operatic quality to them. When I say "operatic" think Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West. Please see the movie in the original language with English subs, not a stupid dubbed English one. Dubbed movies ruin the magic of the movie.
cavallino 2 Report post Posted January 4, 2010 *Shrieking hysterically* I finally saw Avatar!!! In 3D!!! The story, as some have correctly pointed out, might have taken a lot from the movies Dances with the wolves / Pocahontas/ The Last Samurai (no, I've not seen any of these 3, but having read the synopsis of each makes me agree with the observation). Actually I think the writers read the noble savage hypothesis, then played crysis for a bit, watched a GI Joe movie, watched an episode of the Smurfs, watched the lord of the rings and thought 'hey if we put 6 legged animals in and people fighting them that makes for an awesome movie, and then just let their 5 year old kids write the story for the film. You sat through that brutal torture twice? Aww poor you, want a cookie? Go see it. Go masturbate. Cheaper, more fun and porn movies have a better storyline. LabradoRacer 2 Report post Posted January 5, 2010 Had watched Robert Zemeckis's 'Used Cars' a few weeks ago. F*cking hilarious, outstanding comedy. As one reviewer on imdb headlined his review "Even the dog is funny" . It's Zemeckis's finest movie, better than even 'Forrest Gump' . Go see it, you'll laugh your a## off. No need to worry; I'm too much of a film snob. If I can't see it in the original language or in the correct aspect ratio I won't watch it.
Persevere 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Can anyone tell me about a 2009 Argentinian film entitled El Secrete de sus Ojus directed by Juan Jose Campanella? Heard a review on BBC World News early this morning and it piqued my interest. I don't believe that it has a U.S. distributor yet but apparently has done exceptionally strong business in Argentina and is now the official submittal for the Academy's 2009 Foreign Language Film category. Quiet One 15 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 I don't like Argentinian movies. Usually the actors/actresses suck, and the stories and characters are broadly painted. But I loved this movie. Definitely watch if if you have the chance. Well, at least I would recommend it to you if you were Argentinian. I don't know if the movie is too localist for other people's tastes. Thank you for the response, Q.O. There has been a steady increase of Latin American and South American films shown in the U.S. over the last few years and I am hopeful this will find a distributor. That said, I am fairly broad-minded on other tastes, styles and cultures. If I took a hard look at the list of films watched in any 12 month period I'm certain that well over half of them are not U.S. made.
cavallino 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 For someone who liked Transformers, you sure do have a lot of hatred towards movies/games that don't meet your IQ expectations. Transformers is unpretentious, a movie about fighting giant robots - everyone's boyhood dream. No preachy messages on war, terrorism, the environment. Yes, I will, as soon as I finish all seasons of 'South Park'. Umm South Park varies wildly in quality. Just watch the good ones, the bad ones are a pain to sit through. In fact, just watch Scott Tenorman Must Die, and then stop. There really isn't anything that comes close.

I suggest 2 more no-brainer, unapologetic, unabashed,over-the-top entertainers: Crank , Crank: High Voltage. Scott Tenorman...pubes Might as well finish all the South Park episodes. I'm really tired of watching movies. By the way, SP often features the children doing sexual acts intentionally/unintentionally or exposing themselves... a tad too often for comfort ...wonder if Parker & Stone are closet pedophiles Just kidding. elgo 1 Report post Posted January 9, 2010 I might have some kind of attention deficit or something because I can hardly watch a movie without getting bored or having a break after an hour. Which, on the other side, is weird, cause I can be sitting for a couple of hours reading about screws or aluminium casting Anyway as I was saying, I prefer 20 min series. Now I'm addicted to 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'How I Met Your Mother'. Marry me. Or marry Sheldon, whatever you think it's better. (You WOULD pick me over Sheldon if you had to marry someone wouldn't you?) Other favorite series: - Dexter - Monk (haven't still watched his last season) - House M.D.

I see a clear error of reasoning in your postulate. Are we talking about a hypothetic situation in which I'd have to marry someone? In that case, what would be the cause that would make me do so? And why would I have to choose between you and that arrogant, selfish and nerdy guy? You have the same probabilities of marrying me as a perpetual motion machine has of working. The failure of your question stands on its own.

elgo 1 Report post Posted January 9, 2010 Btw I'm going to start seeing '21 días'. Some friends recommended it to me. It's about a journalist who spends 21 days doing different things: 21 days living in the street, 21 days without eating (or eating as little as possible),21 days doing porn! (I wonder if she'll participate 'actively'!!),21 days smoking weed,21 days living like a millionaire... I watched the one about eating, and tbh it helped me to understand some things I didn't know about anorexia and bulimia. If anyone is interested, you can find it here or on youtube.
