Anyone seen a snuff movie yet?

Dude! I saw a man being chewed by a croc. He lived. Was only about 5 mins long, but enough to scar my brain for life.

Anyone remember Ken Bigley's beheading. I had a mate - not any more - sending me the youtube link. Clicked it not knowing what it was. Didn't watch it. Some sick people out there.

Saw a very disturbing horror movie - Jack Ketchum's "The Girl Next Door". No, it didn't have Dracula or Zombies or whatever. It had the greatest monsters of them all: Human beings. No, it's not another Saw/Hostel type movie. It's based on a true, shocking story. You've to have an iron stomach to sit through the entire movie. And yes, you'll probably be reduced to tears of anger, helplessness, frustration. A sure thing is you'll punch the air in the climax. Do see it, it's a superb movie.

That's why Hitchc#ck is still considered a master storyteller. He can do horror without needing an iron stomach to watch it. (I love that the smut filter won't let me type 'HItchc#ck' )

EDIT: Scariest moment that I had from a movie was from 'Signs'. The build-up to the point where you actually see the aliens was superbly done. The characters got their first look huddled in a closet watching a TV news broadcast from a hand-held recorder. The scary part for me happened well after I had gone to bed. That night the Santa Ana winds were blowing something fierce and I woke up after a particularly loud crash from the back yard. I was still in that hazy time between being asleep and awake and the sound of the wind and the memory of the movie combined to make me believe aliens were actually invading. Scared the crap out of me. Then I woke-up fully and felt foolish.....

'Signs' is a good movie. And agreed, the mind (ultimately) does an effective job of creating ghosts, etc & scaring the Sh#t out of us.

And everybody, listen. I want you to see 'Avatar'. At the time of writing, Rotten Tomatoes & critics everywhere have praised it to the skies. And why not? $400 million splashed on the most amazing special effects deserve nothing else. I read somewhere made with some new technology or something, I dunno to be exact. The story's apparently simple, but to be honest, I'm a fanboy just for the eye-candy alone. Sigh, if I had the money, I'd have us all TF1ers watching it in a theatre in 3D.

No but in the African Queen Humphrey Bogart smokes a few cigarettes.... :)

You may very well be old what's-his-name's evil twin but, d**n it, you're still quick on the draw, Grabthigh.

Dudette! Well how long would you expect him to be after playing appetizer to a crocodile? Really...

Yes, the world abounds with sick people. I know nothing of this Ken Bigley beheading reference but I once saw a close-up of Ben Kingsly's head.

Gotta' go.

Saw David Cronenberg's 'Spider'. Slow & patience-demanding, but rewarding.

Good point; I have found that's often the case with Cronenberg's films. Don't bother if you are not specifically in the mood. But when you are up for it he can do "unsettling and creepy" better than almost anyone.

Indeed. Cronenberg is a master.

*Shrieking hysterically* I finally saw Avatar!!! In 3D!!! The story, as some have correctly pointed out, might have taken a lot from the movies Dances with the wolves / Pocahontas/ The Last Samurai (no, I've not seen any of these 3, but having read the synopsis of each makes me agree with the observation). But hey, $400 million of special effects crushes any negatives there might be. All the good adjectives in the world together still won't do justice to the eye candy shown. The 3D thing is a joy indeed! It being my first movie in 3D, it actually wasn't the start of the movie that had me ooh-aahing over the 3D effects. Actually, it began when the logo of 20th Century Fox came on. I was knocked out of my socks to see the words floating near me. And then of course, the jaw began dropping to the floor harder & harder as the movie wore on. Pure entertainment at its finest. Go see it.

P.S The 3D thing wasn't the only first for me today. It was also the first time I booked a ticket online, and also the first time I ate a falafel.

You realize, of course, that your entire movie experience may very well have been a reaction to eating falafel.

It will be most intriguing to see the box office results for the next few weeks. Mind you, that often has little to no bearing on the inherent quality of the film; rather, was Cameron again correct in his assumption that he knows what people want to see and knows how to sell tickets. That, above all else, is what's prized in Hollywood.

laugh.gif Yeah, without the special effects, this movie would be a dud, no doubt. Story's not original for it to be called good or more, but like you said, Cameron was on the bullseye in giving razzle dazzle & his marketing machine is probably without parallel.

Agreed also about the non-corelation of quality of a movie & its box office returns. Great movies have flopped, Sh#te movies have earned more than the GDP of many countries. That has been & will be a sad fact.

Indeed. Cronenberg is a master.

I thought his attempt to shift his focus somewhat - a stronger story and screenplay - with A History of Violence and Eastern Promises was brave and, by and large, successful.

'Executions'. A documentary but essentially a poor excuse to show people being killed for real. I watched it about fifteen years ago and genuinely worried for a month or two that I would never be the same again. The feeling passed. Sickening. I like to mix it up here but the idea of recounting specifics still chills me to the core. Not for the sensitive. I wish I would have been warned.

This alls sounds great!

On a lighter note, has anyone seen Avatar yet? I saw it in 3D on Friday night. Sooooooo good! My god its a feast for the eyes! It truly is a must see in 3D on the big screen. James Cameron's been working on it since he did Titanic, and now I can see why it took so long. The story is pretty good too. five stars. :clap3:

Watched 'There Will Be Blood' last night, then watched it again this morning. I am biased because I simply adore Daniel Day Lewis but I found him just mesmerising. It tackles the moral dilemmas of guilt, greed, religion and hipocrasy in a cinematic epic masterpiece.

A movie that's essentially a character study, but covers the universal topics you mentioned. DDL is awesome in every role.

His best - Bill the Butcher in Gangs Of New York. He is awesome and not bad to look at!

I feel the same about Jean Reno and Kevin Spacey. Totally brilliant actors, seemingly have more to offer with each role.

May put some Da Vinci/Angels & Demons on later. Historically speaking, inaccurate towards the Knights Templar/Illuminati, but still very interesting nonetheless.

Or I may not. Don't know!

I have never felt so endeared by an acting performance. What he brings to that role and the way it stirs my soul is quite beyond words. (Catch Day Lewis on The Culture Show on iplayer. He's interviewed by Mark Kermode in the last ten minutes of the show, amongst other things, about his latest role in the film 'Nine').

Will look out for that.

You saw My Left Foot and In The Name of the Father?

Both- total class. Real heartfelt acting. I recommend if you haven't.

Watched "Paranormal Activity" in the dead of the night. Truly, the scariest movie I've ever seen. My hairs were standing on their end for a good part of the movie (& even after it ended). I'm seriously afraid now. No exaggeration. The chills still aren't abating.
