Tata Nano

Recommended Posts

I agree on the penis-car proportion theory.

Besides,I'd rather drive a tata nano than one of those giant tank cars.

What makes you feel so secure in this world? does your Mustang make you think you are driving a tank?

Tata Nano is only the beginning of a new small car era, soon car manufacturers would be following Tata's steps,

If all cars were the same size as Nanos it wouldn't be bad, but most care around will smash it into a small beer can.

I'd rather pitch both the Nano and the giant tank car in favor of a light, sleek, fast little number with so much horsepower it scares me into my next life. That is a car. All else is simply transportation.

I think the Tesla and the Lightning Car Co are nearly there AutumnPuma - blindingly fast, just need to get there charging distance up....... They say that the acceleration is scary, being linear it must be a strange feeling compared to the cars most of us are used to.

I don't think Nano is the smallest car, Reva is currently the smallest car in this country. Size of Nano is just perfect for the families it is aiming. Nano is aimed at two wheeler market. The problem is that, people from richer countries don't really understand why a country like India needs these kind of cars, even though I am capable of buying a good mid-size car, or an affordable sports car, I can still understand the need for cars like Nano, because there was a time I wished, I had atleast that. Unless people found themselves in situations in which I found myself, It will be difficult to understand the vision of a man, who tried to make cars more affordable.

I think it's Merc that has an equally useless car called the 'Smart Car'. At least the Nano correctly describes what it is!

'Saw the funniest thing the other day. A girl down my road drives one of those. She was coming home with a bicycle hanging out of the window (she must have been picking it up from repair, or something). At first it looked like a bicycle going sideways with a smart car on the handle bars.

Massively illegal, i should think. It was hilarious.

Good to see you back around Mike! Why don't you start a thread about the Ron, Nando, the FIA et al.? We could use some of those! :P

About your opinon, I agree. It is not a car, it is transportation. It's not an expensive dinner, is bread and water. It is not pleasure, it is a need. As such, it is a good idea.

Not a good idea if you're on a Southern California freeway....

So the Nano is a small car that gets 54 mpg and costs @$2500. Good! Thats affordable and will enable a new mobility for lots of folks.

For those who think 54 mpg is an accomplishment for a small car... I have a magazine from 1959 introducing "new small cars" among them the Austin 850 (the mini). The magazine did several milage tests on a variety of cars the Austin Mini returned 58 MPG. You read that right 58 MPG. I have a freind with one who regularly reports 62 MPG!

The Brits were making small fuel efficient cars 60 years ago....my, my, we really seem to be making progress.

ps. some people thought the mini was an ugly car when it first came out too!

Yup. Tata has started a revolution in the car industry, all over the world.

No car manufacter said it was possible to build a car for $2500. But this guy has created a name for himself. Sure it wont be safest, most featureful car, but the masses in developing countries want a car. It is a kind off a status symbol. I can guarentee that this car will have excess demand wherever Tata launches it...

Just 5-6 years ago, In India we had riduclous mobile phone rates, then Reliance entered the industry and introdued cheap fares, now even people sweeping the road in the mornings have cell phones....

It is safer than M800, and I heard that it has already passed the small car crash test. You are aware that Crash test in India is getting tougher and tougher. Cars like 800 and Amby have already failed. It is a good sign.

I agree with the mobile phone thing. Because of Ambani, India is one of the biggest mobile phone market. Some time last year, some small town in Kerala had the highest number of Mobile phone users (on the planet).

India need to develop into a 1st World (not certain if thats the correct term) country because as a general rule people in the 1st world generally dont have as many children as 3rd world countries. When India and China get their act together and decrease their populations then they will all get a higher standard of living. At the moment India and China have a combined population of 2.45 billion people which is about 37% of the World's population.

The Nano has only passed the front crash test.. the rear and side crash testing will be conducted in Nov/Dec

Why does decreasing population = better growth?? Isn't that just like survival of the fitest theory?? I can see how it could lead to better standard of living, but that IMO doesn't equal to better growth...

Maybe not better growth but as you said the standard of living would go up by a mile. All these countries have alot to answer for

1. China - 1.32 Billion

2. India - 1.12 Billion

3. USA - 300 million

4. Indonesia - 225 million

5. Brazil - 186 million

6. Pakistan - 165 million

7. Bangladesh - 147 million

8. Russia - 143 million

9. Nigeria - 135 million

10. Japan - 128 million

Each of those 10 countries needs to reduce their populations by around 30%.

Frankly i think America has amazing standards of living and don't need to care abt decreasing their population.. Yes they are falling into a recession but thats a different story...

The rest i can agree they need to improve their standard of living but NOT by decreasing population growth...
