I agree. The cars I grew up with are the ones that made the biggest impression. The Eagle is just a thing of great beauty, and looks even better in the metal than in photos. Better than the 49 to my eyes, but it's all subjective of course.

And welcome to the forums, Persevere.

How to choose? Perhaps the old saying that the fastest car is the most beautiful? Or should I go with sleek lines? Flashy paintjob? Unique stance? Each of those things would get me a different car. Hm.

Ok, the most beautiful F1 car for me has to be the one that hardens my crotch and makes me want to get on my hands and knees and lick the sides.

1967 Eagle Gurney Weslake V-12.

It's a tie between Lewis Hamilton and the Ferrari 312 (probably the original, since the 312B had wings, so I'm assuming the generic 312 was the cool one that didn't have them).  I'd probably have to say the Lotus 49.

Soz Jack but this is actually the most beautiful F1 car thread, it's just worded wrongly! & that Vantage ain't nice, don't like the volume bars that Aston call air vents!

In early 1968 I was at AAR in Santa Ana Ca. while my dad ported and polished Offy heads for the Gurney Eagle indy cars, I hung out with the guys. The 67 Spa Westlake Eagle was in the compound and the mechanics had to move it back inside so they asked me to steer it while they pushed it in, I was a tall skinny kid all of 14 and I gladly jumped in and did as they asked... Without a doubt the most Beautiful F1 Car of all time, the 67 Gurney Eagle Westlake!Posted Image

...designed by a very young Tony Southgate; Gurney won Spa in 1967. Good to see this post, friend. A very minor adjustment, if I may: it was an Eagle-Weslake.

Williams FW14B

I also used to like the Orange Arrows car and the Jaguar was nice too.

While I can't disagree with the significance and longevity of the 250F making it perhaps the greatest F1 car ever, I'll always hold the Gurney Weslake V12 Eagle to be the most beautiful.

Welcome. Nice to see another mid-westerner. Hopefully you are a better representative than myself.

If your never over eight-tenths, or whatever, because your thinking about a shunt, your not going as quick as you can. And if your not doing that, your not a racing driver. Some guys in Formula 1... well, to me, they're not racing drivers. They drive racing cars, that's all. They're doing half a job. And in that case, I wonder why they do it at all..."
