Persevere 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 Watched Crazy Heart over the weekend. Not great, but good and Jeff Bridges, who has done a lot of fine work over the last 4 decades, has some exceptional moments.
Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 Saw Deathwatch. Yeah, it's good. Bell was good but Andy Serkis ate everybody raw. Also saw 'eXistenZ'. A trippy mind-bender with lots of humour. No idea why 'comedy' wasn't one of the categorising keywords on its IMDB page. Yep, Cronenberg delivers as usual. And also present is his fetish for ugly-squigly things worming their way into holes. See told you told you! eXistenZ is in my top 20 list. One of the few films I actually like Jude Law in. Callum Keith Rennie is well cute too! Watched 'The Missing' with Cate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones. Was watchable and quite good. But the best actress was the kid who played the youngest daughter. She's one to watch for the future, as is Dakota Fanning.
Quiet One 15 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 Metropia. A waste of time. Excellent CG graphics, though. A shame.

Where do you ferret out these movies? From www.rlslog.net (currently down, I think) or www.vcdquality.com ? No, I'm not asking you about torrents. I frown upon anything illegal. Of course, they encourage you to buy it. Something I will do ASAP. No, really. I mean it. Ok, I didn't mean it then, but now I do. Really.

Pucky the Whale 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2010 I'm scared to see Toy Story 3. Children's (spell-checker wants me to replace that with childbearing, and since spell-checker knows best, childbearing it is) movies always get to me.

maure 1 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 Odd but I've just seen two movies in a row that were decent. I recommend you read nothing on them and simply rent/download them and watch them. They are very different, though. The first is a story with heart. The second has none. Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2010 Watched Old Boy. What a ****ing amazing movie. Beautifully acted, outstandingly written. Everything pieces together. But the film keeps you wanting to know. When you know, you wished you didn't. You actually become part of the characters psyche. Recommend it highly. Also watched both Death Notes again. Flipping brilliant. Japanese film is completely brilliant. Its a shame Hollywood rip off such brilliant storylines sometimes.
Jez 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2010 I saw Inception on Friday night. Pretty enjoyable film! It really stays with you. I'd recommend it to all.

The visual and sound qualities are exceptional and probably made for less than it cost for the catering on a typical Hollywood production. Oy, don't get me started... Also try out his I'm a Cyborg, but that's ok & Joint Security Area. The latter one could be considered a re-interpretation of Rashomon, as applied to a North-South Korea squabble. Do see 'em both. Awesome movies.
Rainmaster 7 Report post Posted August 13, 2010 Recently finished watching "Twin Peaks" - not a film I grant you - but the pilot and first series are of such a high quality I thought it was worth a mention (and I don't think we have a telly thread?). Truly great stuff. As for the second series, less brilliant, although from watching some of the DVD extras there were clear reasons for that (network interference, and Lynch and Frost becoming distracted with other projects, mainly). In the end though, when Lynch and Frost had returned to oversee the show, it was brilliant again and had a classic ending. A shame it didn't get picked up for a third series. So now I'm a fan of Lynch, can anybody recommend me some of his best work?

Quiet One 15 Report post Posted August 19, 2010 The Ghost Writer: dirty old Polanski's personal life might be less than ideal, but he still knows how to turn a book written by a conspiracy theorist into a wonderful psychological thriller.

Correct, Andres. One of the best films I've watched this year.
Medilloni 6 Report post Posted August 19, 2010 Blue Velvet (although some people are actually troubled by it to this day) & The Elephant Man. Blue Velvet is a masterpiece, Dennis Hopper as Frank was the absolutely perfect fit, the guy was a genius. Though the only thing I found disturbing about the film was Isabella Rosellini
