I missed the race, it's so sad when everybody is talking about it! Can I stay here for a while? I promise not to make too much noise.

Your arrogance really does get on my nerves - All those that voted for any driver other than Sutil are fanboys because we must all 'accept' that Sutil produced the best drive of the day - That being the case why have a poll at all.

Sutil overtook 3 cars under a waved yellow flag, of those, Barrichelo & Nakajima would have been well within their rights to lodge an appeal if Sutil had completed the race. Do you know of any instances where a driver has overtaken other cars under waved yellows where they have been allowed to retain the position gained - never!

Sutil would not have got 4th place anyway so get off your high horse and show respect to others that may just have different view.

-_-

Dude - you need to chill out.

1 - I was just pointing out that it doesn't fit to say "everyone's just voted for their favourite" as the previous poster claimed. If everyone voted for their favourite, then how come Sutil is way ahead?

I don't see how saying that their aren't loads of Sutil fans in the forum is arrogant. Nor do I understand how saying that loads of people voted for Sutil is arrogant. Please point out exactly what I wrote that was arrogant in your opinion and I will qualify it.

2 - I also DIDN'T say that all those who didn't vote for Sutil are fanboys at all. Read my post. I said possibly 4 or so votes could be down to fanboyism. I actually pointed out 2 votes for kimi as possibilities of this. For Hamilton and Kubica I would accept that they had a good race and in some people's eye's are DOD. I said that they rated deservedly highly in my previous posts.

3 - As for the question why have a poll at all - I would say that that is a valid statement in the case of most DOD polls, since (as I said before) most people usually do vote for their favourites. But in this case you've got your logic backwards. I said the poll shows an outstanding victory for Sutil, therefore one should accept that Sutil had the best drive according to the vast majority of people who voted (I'm qualifying that statement for you now). I did NOT say that we should accept that Sutil was DOD and therefore not have a poll. For once the poll can be seen as largely objective since few people in the forum are outright Sutil lovers. Do you get my point?

4 - As people have pointed out - Sutil's overtaking happened when Alonso hit Heidfeld, but I do think you're right and that had Sutil finished he would have been docked places. But from 19th (qualified) to 4th OR 6th (had he finished there) would STILL put him as DOD in my opinion. While not making the gained positions completely legitimate - it does put it into context. He didn't just drive past them under yellows on and empty part of the track.

5 - I have never disrespected you or any other who holds a different view - please show me where I have. I would counter that saying I am arrogant displays far more disrespect than anything I've posted.

Now Fedup - I didn't accuse you of arrogance when you made your case for Hamilton.

I didn't accuse you of fanboyism either.

I didn't take offence at you disagreeing with my opinion.

I removed my use of capitals in Sutil's name when you asked so politely.

I have done nothing but make my case for Sutil being DOD.

I have repeatedly noted that the poll backs up my opinion - which I think is fair comment.

I don't mind if you think Hamilton was DOD - I personally think he was second in my list (like I said before - Sutil, Hamilton, Kubica, Webber) and that he drove a very good race.

I think the points you have made in Hamilton's favor are valid ones and deserve to be treated as such - I equally think that the points I've made in favor of Sutil deserve equal treatment as they have equal validity. I think that's only fair.

Now please correct me if I am wrong, but aren't you just getting angry because lot's of people voted for Sutil and Kubica over Hamilton for DOD?

And aren't you directing that anger towards me for being the most vocal of the people supporting that opinion?

Like I say - I support your right to choose Hamilton as DOD - I just disagree with it myself.

If I am not allowed to disagree without receiving this kind of abuse or being called arrogant for posting my opinion, then I will make sure to agree with every DOD you pick from now on.

I'm so sorry if you're upset, but accusing me of arrogance reeks distinctly of sour grapes.

Yet again I find myself debating with an oponent who resorts to petty slurs and misrepresentation instead of constructing valid, contradictory arguments to my own.

Now shouldn't we be applauding a fantastic race? Personally watching Monaco this year was a massive highlight in a season that hasn't been too exciting so far.

We had drama, dissapointment, excitement, nervousness, rain, dry, slips, slides, crashes, almost crashes, dumb moves, brave moves, good drives, attrocious drives, good strategies, appaling strategies, underperforming drivers, overperforming drivers, hope, dashing of hope, changes at the front, changes all the way down the field, it was brilliant for the championship, brilliant for F1, brilliant for the fans.

Let's celebrate that and cease bickering over DOD.

I think it was Sutil, you think it was Hamilton and that's just fine - but we should both agree that it was a great race surely.
Yes, Lewis was fantastic today and IMHO was DOD. After his mistake and unscheduled pitstop he was 4th. His middle stint when he managed to leapfrog Massa & Kubica was masterful - He was the fastest driver on the track and deservedly won the race. Remember he managed to overturn a 16 sec gap to Felipe to a 33 sec lead before Rosberg's shunt
Only due to graining of Kubi's tires - otherwise he would have been 2nd

Kubi's problem wasn't graining, it was the inability to get heat into the tyres. Nick, like kimi, is struggling for this very reason, but bob has a more aggressive driving style and therefore doesn't suffer as much as Nick. The Mclaren is the best at heating it's tyres and it will therefore perform better than Ferrari & BMW in low ambient temperature situations. Bob's quali was compromised for this very reason.

Sutil, Kubica, Webber, in that order... although Kubica was the best.

Of the many assassination attempts, mention has to be made of Kimi on Sutil for the heart-wrenching value and Alonso on Heidfeld for the pure-stupity factor. The culprits, these two morons that should know better, get my Worst Driver of the Day.

Massa was a disappointment again. He is saved by Kimi's far worse performance. If I were at Ferrari, I would punch the lights out of these two guys. McLaren's strategy all season is to prepare Hamilton to win if _both_ Ferraris fckup. IOW, McLaren has given up on both WC's. Who would say that _both_ Ferraris would fckup an average of one every three races... so far, Massa and Kimi are the biggest screwups of the season. No excuses when you drive a top car.

Hamilton fcked up, was lucky, and stayed out of trouble. So did other drivers with lesser cars. Am I the only one that expects more of the McLarens? It would seem so. Nonetheless, with Hamilton's victory we've got a new wave of hype... nothing could be worse when you race a top car yet your strategy is midfield.

Kova maintains residence on his private hell... McLaren has reason to celebrate indeed.

Alonso, heck, he took the "nothing to lose" to a new level. Idiots around the world cheered away as his kin bumped his way around the track. What an imbecil drive from Alonso... and more so when he had, if not a podium, a great finish in store. Do any of the resident Alonsomaniacs remember any race when he drove worse?

Sutil and Vettel, drove like Hamilton (or better) but with a sht of a car.

Webber drove the race that Alonso should have done. Have Ferrari or BMW hire him instead of Alonso.

I liked Rossberg too... from quali to ritual suicide.

Anyway, what has F1 come to that we call _that_ a great race...

Well, they have 4 wins out of 6...what stuff are you smoking??????

When Hamilton drove a bad race, everyone had a go at him, so with Kimi...whats wrong with that...

All you have to do is to look at the ones they lost and ask yourself why.

Then, take a look at the driver standings.

Now you are ready to read my post again... and, yes, you may smoke if you wish but I recommend it not.

BTW, I prefer the checkboxes over the radiobuttons for the voting. It allows the one-track-minded to vote for their favourite driver and then for those that actually deserve it. Let us allow the DOD to emerge from the collective sense of goof.... [edit] and put all driver names SVP [/edit]

So, correct me if I'm wrong......the 2 bad races, in which they still scored points btw, makes them the biggest screwups of the season... together with wrong technical and team strategies

Did Kimi scored in Monaco? I missed that... and, is it not so that his failure to score means that Hamilton is ahead? Failing Kimi, is it not so that Massa's thrid also help Hamilton get ahead of them both?

Regarding the two races lost (not won by McLaren, get it?), these are enough for, again, Hamilton to be ahead...

I wonder what you would call a screwup. As far as I am concerned, having a top car and a rival that plays for your fckups, gets them, and then, to add insult to injury, is ahead of on the DWC, qualifies as the most unforgivable screwup of the season so far.

Ferrari already admited that they were responsible for Massa loossing the race and not his mistake, they were also responsible for Kimi's penalty which in the end played a roll in kimi's being at the position were he made thoses mistakes, there were many mistakes in the race but there were some who recovered from them and that is better than drivng a spotless race and still lossing the race (like Kubica) how could a driver loose a race when all your competitors have problems and have to make and extra stop or got out of the track? usually we jugde drivers for their result in the race but in cases like this one a result could be good and still be not enough because we know that the final could have been better, I doubt that BMW could win a race this season, this was the one for them and they lost it, I voted for LH he hit the wall but he won the race anyway defeating drivers he had a clean race.

He didn't win because he hit the wall, he won despite hitting the wall.

No he won because he hit the wall, meaning hit pits gets some fuel on allowing him to later come in at the right moment for slicks. The safety car getting him right up there again made the error completely nulled out and a total positive in the end. Massa being terrifically slow also helped his efforts.

I may be still learning english but looks like you have problems reading, I voted for LH beacuse he won't the race anyway beating everybody else, who did and who didn't do a mistake, there was a point in the race when nobody thought he could win it but he did took a win na dhe did it in your face, you may not vote for him but he is leading the WDC and his name added to the list where everybody wants to be, he did the best job on track he id the DOD.

You understand F1 sato, but you are allowing your hatred for lewis to cloud your judgement here.

Lewis won the race because of his pace on a full tank of fuel - This is what Martin Whitmarsh says;

Q. How pleased were you with the team's response to that early setback?

MW: "I believe we dealt with the situation very well. We put in a reasonably heavy fuel load, but despite the weight penalty Lewis maintained a really quick pace - a vital factor at that stage of the race. He did a terrific job. Conditions were exceptionally difficult but he didn't commit any other errors and the team made the right calls at the right time. We're delighted with the outcome."

Q. Lewis still had plenty of fuel on board when he made his second stop on lap 54. Why did you bring him in early?

MW: "We were slightly anxious because we wanted to cover him against the potential risk of a Safety Car. People were starting to switch to dries and conditions were still very slippery, so the chances of an accident were quite high, but it was clear that dry tyres were the way to go. That's why we called him in when we did and it was the right thing to do."

Compare Lewis pace on full tank to Massa and you'll understand why Lewis won the race. As you well know F1 these days is a race against the clock as much as a race on track and that is where Lewis real performance was evident.

For a minute I thought Kubica would win the race as he had track position and appeared faster than Massa in drying conditions - His relatively poor pace in the middle stint was his undoing and ultimately cost BMW their first win.

Probably in the same way that a boxer who gets knocked on the seat of his arse during a fight then goes on to win the bout. You see a different side to their character.

I am so glad the DOD thread is a complete and utterly irrefutable factual evaluation of the relative merits of the drivers. I would hate to see so much arguing and vitriolic comments over a completely subjective assessment :whistling::lol:
