Will Petronas back either one? Both teams seem to be good candidates, though I'd think they'd screw Sauber over and go to Lotus due to the Malaysian government connection and the fact Lotus are confirmed.

Was thinking Red Bull but the already sponsor 2 teams so it would be greedy so Petronas will probably go to Proton Lotus!

I'm too lazy to look it up but I vaguely remember that part of the FIA's case was that it was "inconceivable" that Ron didn't know what was going on. Regardless of whether they were right, that's not proof. There was proof that Coughlan took the info, but that wasn't relevant- the point was the FIA believed Ron + others knew and covered it up.

In this case I think the same applies- it is inconceivable that Pat & Flav didn't know what Piquet was up to. Maybe not beforehand, but certainly afterwards. Thus they're guilty of a cover up of a race fix, even if it wasn't perpetrated by them.

As others have pointed out, this isn't a court of law. "Probably" is good enough.

All that's 'good enough' is for the team to have brought the sport into disrepute. That's essentially what McLaren were found 'guilty' of. The same article was breached in both cases. And by the FIA's own rules, the entrant of a team is responsible for the actions of it's members. All this talk of who in the team is responsible is rubbish. The only important matter, going by the rules, is what to do with Renault F1. McLaren got hit with a massive fine and so too should Renault F1. Certainly the individuals involved shouldn't be allowed back into the sport, but that is separate from the issue of the team's punishment.

Another interesting angle on the whole crash thang according to Sporting Life is that NPJ is still managed by Flav. Apparently Flav earns 20% of NPJ's earnings (not a lot then!) until 2015!!!

NP Senior is considering suing Flav, post outcome of Monday.

So yes, this one won't go away in a hurry

1% of my earnings in Formula 1 until 2015 are worth more than NPJ's.

And now for something completely the same:

- Papa Piquet has backtracked on his previous allegations that Fernando knew everything.

- Eddie Irvine says "what's the big deal? it was perfectly normal in the old days" (geez!)

- Hill says that Piquet's crash might as well have been an accident for it is very hard to crash on purpose and make it look like an accident. (Schumacher certainly couldn't :P)

- This is from a friend of mine that works for the a local PR company tha has Renault among their customers, so it must be taken with a generous pinch of salt: What made Renault finally choose to sack Briatore were his comments that, even though he knew nothing about the crash itself, after Singapore when it was the time to renew NPJ's contract you do not say "did you do it on purpose?" you just go ahead and renew the contract without asking anything. They think that that was his crime.

- As for the former drivers opinions, contrary to Hill and Irvine, we have Stewart, Lauda and Jordan so far (AFAIK)

With all of this you have to question the advice given to NP Jnr by NP Snr.

Not the sharpest tool in the box methinks.

Whilst this gets back at Flav and exposes wrongdoings, etc this episode has killed any racing career NP Jnr may have followed. What makes is doubly bizarre is that NP Jnr was pushed into poking both his boss and Contract Manager with a big pointy stick.

You can't help think it would have been better just to take the sacking like a man, say nothing and move on.

How long before NP Snr buys an F1 team and sticks sonny into it?

Eddie has a point. Williams and Mclaren fixed a championship deciding race and even with evidence, nothing happened to them.

You cannot buy a team without big boys approval. Who is going to sell you engine?

Today in F1, two really awful rumors surfaced. The first suggests the Belgian Grand Prix will be axed. The other implies Fairuz Fauzy will get the "Lotus" seat. Surely they aren't overlooking F1 superstar adamstrags; he got 5 DOD votes without even racing. One can only imagine how many he'd get just for completing the parade lap.

Today in F1, Team US F1's driver selection process was unveiled. They invited six young Yanks to test...a Vauxhall in order to determine which one would get the US-only seat (may be race, may be test). Looks like the Vauxhall was the best they could afford. Where's that $64,000,000 they promised? Max Mosley said he expected "up to four teams" pulling out, and in addition to Toyota and Renault, I have to bet US F1 was one of them. I wonder if the American drivers even knew what a Vauxhall was.

Wait until 2011, the grid will have 500 cars then. I will be signing for the Lada F1 team. We expect to make it to the first corner in at least one race of the calendar. I am having some troubles with the steering wheel. What the hell is щатзя?

Belgian GP axed?? Fairuz Fuzzy????

Simmer down. Belgium will be there in 2010, and 2011, and probably 2012. Then it's getting axed. By then I'll be in uni and won't have any way to watch Formula 1 between the months of September and May so what do I care?

Fairuz Fauzy...well, he's from Malaysia. "Lotus" are from Malaysia. Super happy fun jingoism yay! Why have the best 24/26/28/whatever on the grid when you can have 24/26/28 futile drivers hired based on nationality!!!!! It did work wonderfully well for A1 GP, you know...

So it's a proper Malaysian team with Malaysian only drivers & Petronas engines! I guess Alex Yoong will be coming out of a coma now with this news!
