Anyone Remember That Jackass Driver Called Webber?

Recommended Posts

Webber is actually no better than Sato! He has the hot-lap speed (though not pole quality), but beyond that he is a disgrace. On race day he is an accident waiting to happen at every coner (especially the first one). He has absolutely no race craft and Williams will be worse off with him in their line up. They need to get championship material and would actually be better off with Anthony Davidson & Pizzonia for 2006!

Team orders would probably have been banned to prevent further incompetent brits from winning the championship.

Stop attacking Britain all the time its unfair, I don't pick on India at all even when I'm arguing with you

That is part of my continuing attack on the English F1 media, that started long ago and will continue until the hypocrisy of the english media continues unabated (that includes the Australian media too by the way, and some minor others). They have repeatedly exposed their anti Ferrari bias this year again by their attitude towards the indy crisis and their silence over the use of team orders this year, which is in addition to their silence over the use of team orders in 1998 by mclaren and in the end of 1999 by Ferrari when it favoured a British driver / team. The same media was crying foul play after austria 2002.

I dont know where you get this from. The mclaren 1998 melbourne race was heavily criticised, and the ferrari 1999 as I remember english media made it absolutely clear that schumi was much faster all weekend. We don't kid ourselves in this country, we know that Hakkinen & Schumi were a lot better than Irvine. I've never seen Indian media but I would bet money that its entirely pro-karthikeyan, depite the fact that he's a waste of time/money/space

to add to jem, the Australian media is beyond pro Webber. This problem occurs all around the world. Espeically during the Olympics. TV stationgs think people want to watch stuff just cause the athlete is from the same country as them. Me, I'm more concerned about seeing the best athletes compete regardless of what country they are from. So this pro-webber, pro-chutney, media coverage is to be expected. England do it with Button as well.

not really, why do you always think this! This country seems to think F1 is not important, its never a main story in the newspapers and who cares if the country backs THEIR countryman, everyone does it, at least the UK back a driver whos actually capable of eventually winning a WDC unlike webber whos completely pathetic other than in quali!

yeah the aussie media try to make excuses for him, as they do for all their failed sportsmen. They don't realise it makes them look even more stupid!

I think you button groupies got misread what I wrote. All countries to a certain degree have a level of media reporting bias towards drivers from the same country as them. I doubt Spain is running articles on how great Sato is right!? lol. Of course not. I'd irrelevant how good a driver is. Re-read my post again concerning the Olympics. I don't care what country a driver is from and it's to be expected the media will be favorable to drivers from their own country. Me I care about seeing good racing from good drivers, whether they be american, finish, martian or michael jacksons mexican gardners. I defend in no way the somewhat bias coverage each country gives their own, but it's always been that way with any sport and will continue long after we're done and buried.

Strange considering your outrageous opinion of button's driving ability! I never read your olympics post, I was just talking about aussie media

Ola. I'm sure some culture differences and some quality inbreeding on my part makes me somewhat insensitive. It wasn't meant as a derogetory thing but as a joke. Am impoverished gardener hailing from mexico racing a F1 sports car. Anyway my bad on that. The Michael Jackson part was ahem, well he's an easy target isn't he lol.

Yes but they did not call for the banning of team orders or start saying F1 is a farce or anything of that nature until Ferrari used exactly the same tactics in Austria in 2002.

Me too. You're right imo that most countries' media are biased towards their own. Regarding Britain's media I would say the quality press don't make totally ridiculous claims about British drivers though. They are pro Hill and Button/Coulthard but they do recognise they are not (quite) the best drivers in the world (yet) too.

JPM is a mediocre talent in absolute terms not just relative to Kimi Senna. Look at his performances against Ralf and consider how badly Ralf has done this season... Juan was very fortunate to be matched against arguably the most over-rated driver in F1 at Williams.

Indeed. Ralf won more races than JPM, yet we hear so much about the columbian's race-winning pedigree.

Indeed, many were fooled but I was not. Juan is now the same mediocre talent that he was at Williams. He does show an occasional glimpse of brilliance but those are far more rare than his moments of shear stupidity and recklessness.

I suspect the reaction around the world was very similar - it certainly was at the race in Austria! The situations were completely different as was the timing used. If you had looked at a quality newspaper you would have learnt that MH was regarded as a faster driver even in Britain in 99. In any case if you don't think the British press is any good there seems to be an easy solution to your problem given that you live in India (even I don't read 90% of newspapers here). You will probably find that if India ever gets an F1 driver with a prayer of winning a race your media will be biased too, they may even be now with Karty given that some people think his presence in F1, albeit for one year only, is not an insult.

You are absolutely right Murray, many of the Indians who join this forum are absolutely flabbergasted to find that their driver is not hailed as the most promising young driver in motorsport here as he presumably is in their media. Cavallino, perhaps you could shed some light on the situation. Is Narain described as anything but an underqualified marketing prop in your media?

the indian media truly flatter him . call him the fastest indian in the world!!!!! he appears on all the satellite channels on tv .(in commercials) and brags how brave and aggressive he is and he impressed steward in 2000. when he raced for his team in british f3.and he wants us to believe that he would have made it to f1 in a jaguar 1n 01 or 02 but for his lack of sponsors!!! i a "narain fan"just coz he is the 1st indian in f1 and i m hapy for that. otrwise i already mntioned i am part of kimi fan club since last 4 yrs longbfor this media hype of f1 in india in05

.but i guess thats how it goes.webber is hailed as the next big thing in the ozee media. and that no onbe but god webber could have ever got a pt in a minardi

But as I see it, he's got that assclown Webber trying to run things and this buffoon Sam Michels who thinks he can design a quick car. I think both will be cleaning out their desks very soon and Frank and Patrick will finally get some sense and turn things around.

one can only hope my friend

On the media, I dislike parts of the media for the utter ignorance about other drivers seeing as they focus heavily on Webber on the assumption that the whole country cares. Look, every national media outlet with a driver in F1 will be more biased towards their own guy, that's natural, but it's the extent of the bias which gets me.
