Alonso Joins Mclaren For 2007

Recommended Posts

Well like everyone else on the forum, I am utterly gobsmacked by the news. I definitely did not see this one coming, and I doubt even Senna would have seen this coming. I think this is a massive move with a lot of ramificiations and only provides us with many more questions:

Who will be his teammate?

If Kimi, where does this leave JPM?

If JPM, does this mean Kimi is off to Ferrari?

If he is off to Ferrari, will Michael retire or will he go to RBR?

What will happen to the Renault team?

Will they be bought by Prodrive F1 and Renault supply engines? Will they pullout altogether?

Who will be Renault drivers in '07? Fisi and Kovalainen or Heikki and someone else?

Many many questions. The perfect situation would be for Kimi and Alonso to be teammates. It would be the 21st century Prost v Senna. The two best drivers in what many think will be the best car. As soon as the silly season for '06 has ended (with BMW announcing JV), the '07 one has just begun.

I believe Kimi has already signed a deal to move to ferrari in 2007! Renault will pull out altogether I think and prodrive or someone else will take over the team! They could still provide engines but their bosss seems to hate f1!

I hold in my hands, a portable noose. On it are the words:

David Richards, the son of a bitch who nearly ruined Jacques Villeneuve and brought Takuma Sato into a top team in F1.

On sale now, for any Minichamps cars of Michael Schumacher, call today, 1-800-Hes-gone

BUT DR gave ts the drive after jacques quit! Maybe he needs to realise, a poor example of a wdc is far better than sato! Villeneurve is miles and miles infront of TS in terms of ability and just generally much better!

jem, whilst Jordan did indeed introduce Sato into F1, it was Richards who gave Sato a gig with a top flight team.

well, look at it this way. In 2004 when BAR produced their finest ever car. Jenson scored 86 points and 12 podiums (not sure about the number, so apologies to the JB fans if it is wrong), whilst Sato scored 34 points and 1 podium. I think its fair to say that a JV far from his peak would have put up much more of a fight.

In 2005, in a BAR which wasn't that great to start off, but was more respectable come the end of the year, Button scored over thirty points, and Sato scored 1. Jacques, in a Sauber, scored 9. Heck, if you don't want to count Indy points for Minardi and Jordan, then Monteiro matched Sato's feat with his point at Spa, in a Jordan!!!!!!!

David Richards, the son of a bitch who nearly ruined Jacques Villeneuve and brought Takuma Sato into a top team in F1.
well lets hope renault dont pull out and lets hope DR leaves and never comes back

amen to that!

You'll not believe it, but the guy who hosts F1 down here was on radio today, and he said the Renault seat will 'most certainly' go to Webber.

 Now, I understand the link as Mark is managed by Flavio, but if Mark doesn't improve on his '05 showing, then there is no way that Renault would want him.

Richards. He thinks he's good for some reason.

Well, this is the guy that resurrected Takuma Sato. This is the guy that lambasted JPM, Fizzy, JV and his

World champion Fernando Alonso will make a shock switch to McLaren in 2007.

The team announced today the Spaniard will join McLaren after next season but did not say whether he will partner Juan Pablo Montoya or Kimi Raikkonen

I think this was to be expected. The McLaren was the fastest car in 05 if not the most reliable. If McLaren can get the reliability factor sorted out by 2007, they will be very difficult to beat.

But the 2007 car won't have any input from Newey. That could have a huge impact

I think you put too much emphasis on the importance of one man. Mclaren has hundereds of employees, at least three design teams, and various top designers and other technical staff at Paragon. Remember, the Mclaren of 2001, 2002, and 2004 was not up to scratch and they where all Newey designs. The issue for Mclaren, in my opinion, is if the Benz is reliable and fast.
