SUPER AGURI GETS THE GREEN LIGHT

Super Aguri F1 has won its battle to compete in the 2006 Formula 1 world championship after the FIA confirmed its late entry on Thursday afternoon.

The team has faced an anxious wait since before Christmas after it was denied an initial entry because it did not provide the necessary paperwork.

The FIA then granted permission to Japanese former F1 racer Aguri Suzuki to seek a late entry, which gave him time to come up with the necessary $US48m bond to secure a place on the grid.

Suzuki also required unanimous support from the 10 rival teams in order for the FIA to able to consider a late entry possible.

An FIA statement confirmed that Super Aguri had been given the green light to become F1's 11th team: "Following receipt of the necessary financial guarantee and with the unanimous support of the competing teams, the FIA has accepted the late entry of the Super Aguri F1 Team to the 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship."

This marks the first time since 2002 that there have more than 20 cars in the field.

SUZUKI: THANKFUL FOR TEAM SUPPORT

Formula 1's newest team principal Aguri Suzuki has expressed his delight at his team's inclusion in the 2006 Formula 1 world championship.

The former Japanese F1 racer has had an anxious wait while the FIA decided over the fate of his team, which is set to use modified 2002 Arrows chassis and V8 Honda engines in the early races.

"I am very happy that the FIA has accepted Super Aguri F1 team's application to race in 2006," said Suzuki.

Suzuki had to win unanimous approval from the 10 rival teams and come up with $US48m bond in order for the FIA to accept his squad's late entry after his team's initial request was denied in November.

"I am thankful for the support we received from all of the other F1 teams and we look forward to seeing them soon," he added.

Whats the point having more cars in the grid if they are only to run few laps, maybe they wont even start...are you hearing me Sato?...I wonder if Super Mario Aguri cars will have a "kill engine" button in the wheel... :naughty:

I'm happy to see a new team in F1. I don't mind they'll use four year old chassis, although let's be fair - they're only using the tub from the Arrows, not the whole car - as it's only for four races. I just hope Sato has learnt from his disgraceful year in '05.

I can't help but reply to this.

Kimi hit a kill switch in Australia 2005, costing him what could of quite likely been a 2nd or 3rd placing in the end. Yet everyone only ever mentions Sato hitting it costing him 7th or 8th at best most likely.

its not only "Sato" who is attacked

Jenson button hits the wall at the canadian gp,still some self proclaimed "forum Guru's" claim he is 4th best

a mistake from a jordan driver at china ,is posted by the same member over and over again...

and ,and,

also kimi makes a mistake at the brazilian gp (not his only mistake this season) and also spins in the italian gp,i have pointed out his mistakes more than once

but some "very informed" people shrug it off, claiming that kimi made only few mistakes...,whilst on the other hand repeatedly listing Monty's innumerable mistakes ......

and to top it all "THE VERY INFORMED FEW" come up with a totally ficticious $30 million figure ,which may well be because of the repurcusion of "HIS man " having to shell out $30 million to williams....

they even claim MS is past his best and is 3rd best on the grid atm :mf_tongue:

good news, we need more teams in the sport. I hope that Berger and penske get rolling. Lower operating costs in f1=more competition and teams.

Super Aguri: Taku will probably drive for us.

The Super Aguri F1 team have confirmed that they have entered into 'final negotiations' with Takuma Sato.

The news follows yesterday's announcement by the FIA that Super Aguri will be allowed to compete in the championship this year, despite failing to submit the $48 million bond on time.

Sato lost his drive with BAR-Honda at the end of last season, after the Brackley based team elected to sign former Ferrari driver, Rubens Barrichello to partner Jenson Button

this is excellent news. i would like to quote in article from the yomiuri newspaper of japan, announcing the above story, for the benefit of the forum folk:

"Suzuki, who started 88 GP races and was the first Japanese to to earn place on an f1 podium, said last year his goal was to build a team for which Sato would want to drive".

read it and cringe if you will, but it appears he was successful in achieving his goal. gotta love the guy, sets a goal, goes for it, and accomplishes it. how many times have you heard of teams trying to form and get on the grid? a Sh#tload. this guy made it happen in the offseason, which is only half over.

pay respect people, this guy made it happen. in the space of 3 months he was able to convince all the 10 teams against all odds to accept his team onto the grid for '06, fronted up 48 MILLION DOLLARS as bond/collateral and will be on the grid in bahrain. can you imagine trying to pull such a caper off? no, you probably didn't even think of it for a sec. why? cos all you can do is focus on the little things. oh, and of course cos having this team on the grid will cause massive fatalities. wait while i roll my eyes.

all you guys can do is snort and make fun of him and the team. well fellas, this guy is all action, no talk. sure he'll be crap for a few races but he's gonna be on the f1 grid, and he's a privateer! what happened to all the other privateers in f1?? which way are they going, into or out of the paddock? i for one respect the guy for pulling off the seemingly impossible. when we see davidson in the car i'm sure the tune will change...

Please wait for announcement, says Sato.

Japanese driver Takuma Sato has said that he is relieved that the Super Aguri F1 Team entry has been approved by the FIA for the 2006 season, and he asks his fans to 'please wait a little longer,' for an announcement of his role with the team.

The statement on his personal website, www.takumasato.com reads as follows:

"We have been waiting for this news for a long time so now I am relieved and so happy.

"I was quite sure that the team would be able to get approval from the FIA, but I was anxious waiting for the official announcement. Until now the staff at Leafield have been doing their best to prepare for the first race, now finally they can start to operate as an official F1 team, so I think they are relieved too

I think Honda helped quite significantly. Aguri is not a miracle worker.
