yurp 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2009 China's gonna be interesting... yes indeed - there's sure to be a nasty atmosphere whatever the outcome. From Guardian... The Ferrari lawyer's argument was backed up by the contention of the Renault team representative Andrew Ford who claimed that the French formula one team had abandoned such a diffuser design last year when the FIA deemed it illegal. (And this was reiterated above too.) I have sympathy for Renault if this is even partially true, but also find it hard to understand how it could be entirely true. (i.e. they couldn't have been asking about exactly the same design, not having access to the Brawn diffuser.) At the same time, it demonstrates the duplicity of the FIA and puts most if the blame for this nonsense squarly at their doorstep. As I said above - they really do need to sort their s##t out. If it is made illegal, which i think will be the case, then 3 teams will have to change their design as opposed to 7 teams having to change their design if it is deemed legal. This would work against FIA's policy of reduced spending this year either way but 3 teams redesigning their car is sure cheaper than 7.

HandyNZL 1 Report post Posted April 15, 2009 They'reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee LEGAL - pitpass is reporting that the diffusers are legal, and so far toyota has said they are happy with the decision. We await the responses from other teams.
Max Mosley 2 Report post Posted April 15, 2009 I predict Brawn and Williams will also be happy. The others less so. Well it's up to the others to develop their new cars now. Renault say they already have a basic split-level diffuser ready for Shanghai, and I'm sure McLaren, Ferrari and BMW can't be far behind. Hopefully this will particularly help McLaren who are most in need of some extra rear downforce. The rest of the cars will have to be re-optimised, which again will help McLaren because some of Ferrari's good work in developing their current car will go to waste. Ross Brawn hinted (I think) that Red Bull might find it harder to add a new diffuser because of their fancy rear suspension - does Ross Brawn not get on with Adrian Newey? The FIA just did'nt want to embarrass themselves with the notion of having to disqualify and strip points of teams....

Medilloni 6 Report post Posted April 15, 2009 Legal. A most excellent result. Hey Brad, sorry you don't agree they are legal ( ) but nonetheless, I agree with your comment...."The FIA just did'nt want to embarrass themselves with the notion of having to disqualify and strip points of teams....". They are knobs of the first order Don't worry, Ferrari will design something damn good very soon. It's just the organisation and drivers that need a kick up the bum
yurp 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2009 Yep - signed off as Legal! I think that's the best result quite honestly. BUT now the FIA should apologise unreservedly to Renault etc or else explain to everyone what was illeagl about their designs as opposed to the Brawn/Toyota/Williams one. AND UNFORTUNATELY Some people around here already have their excuse to moan for the rest of the season if the results aren't as the like them - joy. **** IT on to Shanghai! I think Renault is contemplating court action against FIA. If they have communication records on paper, I would go after FIA in court and make them suffer for **** up they caused to Renault.
