Questions You Have Always Pondered On

Recommended Posts

Everyone has one. Why this or what that! Lets see if we can finally resolve those all elusive questions!

Mine.

Why is a Lion called King of the Jungle? I thought Lions live on prairies etc. (Random fact. I love prairie dogs!)

Religion. If God is the all seeing all knowing all forgiving, then if Lucifer asked forgiveness would he forgive him?

Why do people add entirely unnecessary prepositions at the end sentences? :P

I'de like to hear Mike or Tommy's view on this one. Apparently, Luciferr together with his demons were given time b4 mankind to repent, and spat it back in God's face. The fight for the souls of mankind began when we were created. Lucifer has brought so many souls to hell already the damage done is too great.... That's my take on it.

But that is contradictory to what my teacher tried to tell me. Lucifer was apparently cast out because he disobeyed God by not doing what he asked which was 'love human more than me'

Its interesting. I'm the biggest contradiction I know. An Athiest who has interest in that stuff.

I don't think so, your interest is healthy because it shows you're an informed atheist. Plus, you're tackling the question from a pretty logical point of view, so it doesn't even seem to be about religion anymore, just an interesting "there's no real answer" question.

Steph, if your picking contradictions in the bible you can do much better than the inconsistent application of tolerance, but if that's the game...

Christianity and tolerance...

Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

(Kill the homosexuals)

Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

(Kill the witches)

Leviticus 20:27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

(Stone the wizards)

1st Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

(Don't speak in church ladies - no specific punishment written here, but I assume your husband would be expected to give you a damn good beating)

And the list goes on...

Worshipping false idols - death by stoning.

Worshipping gods other than the Christian God - death by stoning.

Doing anything the Spanish inquisition didn't like - death by all sorts of depraved methods - perhaps flaying the skin from your body, burning at the stake, pulling your entrails from your body cavity while you watch, burrying you alive or some other particularly ghastly method of death. etc etc etc.

Tolerance my arse.

Adam. Don't. I'll be here all day. My views on religion and churches are far too extremist for this place. I'd get myself into serious bother. Ask Chris. (If he comes back.)

Thats not to say I do not respect people who follow religion. I have no time for preachers, churches, fanatics who try to tell me that just because I'm dealing with cancer that 'God thinks I'm unclean and will go to the lake of fire.' Yep. Thats right. My response to the twat that said that.... 'Does your God not say thou shalt not judge, and love thy neighbour? Well I guess your pretty ****ed then aren't you, you prick.' He walked away.

I have no patience for religion. I'm trying hard not to go into one.

Besides, Sir Adam. Whats your question? :P

Nice thread, I will be thinking of lots of questions. :)

I've never thought about a Lion not living in a jungle! That is weird, if anyone does know the answer to that I'd like to know too.

I'd like to attempt to answer the religious one, I'm no scholar. (My answer will be based on the bible so you'll have to, for this moment accept what it says in the bible is true.)

The bible doesn't specifically address this issue but you can make an educated guess from the other principles in the bible. Humans have many obstructions that mean we can not know God fully whilst we are on earth, but the angels are continually in God's presence and know the fully awesomeness of God. So they have no excuse to turn away. Lucifer was a very important angel if not the highest of all the angels so he was one of the closest to God but he wanted to kick God off His throne and take over the rule of the universe so God cast Lucifer, along with his followers out of heaven, (although for a time he still had access to heaven and Gods throne.) To rebel despite what they knew, was the utmost of evil and probably results in God not giving them a chance to be forgiven.

God is all forgiving because he sent Jesus as a sacrifice to redeem all humans not angels, there is no get out clause for them. God referred to the angels that remained loyal as "elect angels", the ones God elects for salvation will be saved, clearly this does not included Satan and the angels that rebelled with him.

The fallen angels are completely devoted to opposing God, the bible gives no reason to think Satan and his angels would ask for forgiveness even if they were given the chance.

And you are not a contradiction for asking questions about something you don't believe. How would you know what you believe if you only ever know one side of things? And ignorant people are the worst kind of people, the only way not to be ignorant is to ask questions. I ask questions all the time, in fact most of my friends laugh at me I ask that many questions.

Edit: I don't know how I do it, but I always manage to make sentences in different sized text. eusa_think.gif

If practice makes perfect, but we are told nobody is perfect, why should we practice?

It was a little dig at your thread title Steph - no need for the 'on' at the end. ;)

Since you asked so nicely though, here's another - Why can't scousers work out how to use a simple forum without making double posts? :P

Kate. That is a great answer, in depth, really thought out well and logical. I like that. If I was a believer, that would quite possibly be the belief I would hold. Excellent, excellent post. Thank you.

Adam. I thought you may have let me off! Since I called you Sir and all. :)

Andres. I haven't a clue! James, excellent question. Some great stuff on here.

- Was Charles Atlas' system actually effective? Has anybody ever tried it?

Charles Atlas did. And it worked for him. So there's your answer.

Why thank you. I have used all of my brain power now so my posts will be full of crap for the rest of the day! :D (OK more full of crap)

I'm sorry to hear you've met some psycho Christians saying that crap to you. They are talking a complete load of bab. I've had people say stupid stuff like that to me loads of times, usually when something bad has happened like illnesses or family deaths, they really pick their timing don't they?!? Unfortunately a lot of Christians know little about the bible and even less about God but like to tell everyone else what's wrong with them rolleyes.gif

Not all Christians are like that though, take me for example: I'm ace! tongue.gif

Something made me think for many years.. when you turn off the light where does it go? After many year thinking I found the answer: to the fridge, you open the fridge´s door and voila! is there!

Which reminds me of the question: if we're not supposed to have midnight snacks, why does the fridge have a light?

That's a very thoughtful post. I'd never considered that kind of thing before. Even though I'm not religious atm, I do find aspects of Buddhism and Christianity very appealing. Personally if I were to become a Christian, I'd take the Bible as not really the inerrant word of God but a human approximation to what He wanted to say. So to me all these contradictions aren't important - they only appear because the Bible has been written down by humans. The important thing is the gist of the message imho: it's about inspiring people to follow their better instincts, like being compassionate.

Charles Atlas did. And it worked for him. So there's your answer.

The worst ones are at uni. They do offer free curry but they make you eat it while somebody goes off on one about Hell and eternal suffering...

Very good.

My question: why do people who design bottles never notice that they don't pour well?

They're completely wrong.

John 9

1As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life."

Why can Christians eat pork while Jews and Muslims can't?

Why Chrisitians can't even think about stoning a human being?

What Jesus taught us is not what we (Christians, Priests, etc.) do. Why is it so hard for some people to understand, Adams?

Pretty close. This reminds me of a question you asked me ages ago that I've never answered. I"ll answer it in a PM.

Talking religion to those that don't believe bores the hell outta me so I'm gonna take a pass on this thread (which has turned into a religion-bashing one). Sail your own ships how you will; I'll not judge you and I would ask the same sensibility from everyone else towards me.
