maure 1 Report post Posted January 19, 2008 Yes, that's how it works on these forums. If a 'buddy' of mine, posts something that I absolutely disagree with, then I will agree with him and give him applause just to annoy or amuse you! The reason is far simpler and commonplace... safety in numbers and eagerness to fit in regardless. And, yes, I find it amusing. The things you guys say sometimes defy all sense. All this from putting 'I am the Stig' in response to your post. I wasn't having a go at you, or making fun of you, or anything like that, just posting a popular slogan from these parts. Lesson learnt, I guess I am familliar with the phrase... so what? You brought it up because I asked what to put on Hamilton's and Kimi's helmets to commemorate their respective WCs... well? Any luck finding reason for your comment yet or still dancing it away?

The things you guys say sometimes defy all sense. Safety in numbers and eagerness to fit in.........................on an internet forum ????? Oh man, you have said some really dumb things on here, but that really takes the biscuit! I am familliar with the phrase... so what? You brought it up because I asked what to put on Hamilton's and Kimi's helmets to commemorate their respective WCs... well? Any luck finding reason for your comment yet or still dancing it away? There are none so daft as those who act it and you really do act well. It's for the same reason as Alonso putting 2 aces on his helmet. Apparently, you can comprehend that

AleHop 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2008 No, it doesn't. Yes it does. Andres, it never happened to you but I have seen it. After a while you get used to it. I still remember Shane and everybody calling me Shane because I was an Alonso supporter. I have seen it, and some posters let it be and some others complain about it like maure and some others get very ungry like me in the past. It can be very annoying, and very unfair sometimes. Quiet One 15 Report post Posted January 21, 2008 Allow me to disagree. For every new person that comes and is not received with a welcome party, there are many others who blend in quite fine. We've discussed this before but I will give you the reasons again for it was an old thread. - A forum is a place were people gathers to exchange opinions and know each other. Usually. Some people enjoys the social interaction, some others just want a place to vent their anger or abuse people shielded by the net's anonimity. - We are a group of people. We act like any other group. We might discuss, we may not agree in most issues, but we get to know each other with each post, and as we know each other better we tend to establish bonds. Those bonds are a result of time spent together and discussin on the forum. You can't be a instataneous friend with everybody. The more time you spend, the better people knows you, the more chances you get of finding a common ground and make those bonds stronger. This is not privative of this forum, or the forums in general, but rather a common trait in human interaction. It would be the same if we all were gathered in a club, or a jail. - I don't agree with most opinions that PumpDoc, Autumnpuma, Murray, Pabloh, Dribbler, Goferrarigo, Abbasgear, Bradspeedman, Cavallino and so many of my friends here sustain (and there are lots more). But we are friends, and I am proud of disagreeing with them. Why? Because through continuous, yet polite arguments, we slowly found common grounds. We respect each other. I can call Bruce a pussy and probably *fingers crossed* he will not ban me on the spot. Others probably couldn't. Because there is discrimination? Nope, because he knows me. He knows I mean no harm and that I am probably joking. IF you are new, or if you stay segregated from the rest, we will not know if you are being funny or offensive. So you probably will end up being banned. - Maure keeps talking about the "mob mentality", and using personal attacks. I credit him for treating me with utmost respect, and I never joined one of the usual arguments he has with the rest of my friends (go ahead and look it up...all I do is make an ocasional joke when I can't resist it, and it never is a real attack on him, more of a joke to lighten things up). Your style sometimes is similar. You can be only so sarcastic before people start frowning upon you. If you mix sarcasm with good natured discussion we will accept it as a trait. Cavallino is a person that is like that. He can be very, very sarcastic and derisive towards your arguments. I hated him on the spot. With time, I learned his better side and learned to respect him, too. You, and maure, never give us the opportunity. You feel always prosecuted and react with extreme defensiveness. That isolates you and enforces a vicious circle. On your defense, I've seen you many times act more relaxed than maure. And as such you should notice that you are not being attacked as much. Even most attacks aimed at you are jokes. I was attacked many times when I was new. I decided to consider them as jokes, and didn't react in a bad way. Soon enough, people stopped attacking me (well, you are never exempt of a personal attack, but they are not as common) and they took the time to know me better, because I was not at war with them. And sometimes people changed their opinions because they understood what I said and considered it logical. If you start by saying that the person you are arguing with is an idiot, or knows nothing about F1, or something like that, how do you expect him to take the effort to understand your point of view and consider it valid? How ready are you to change your own opinion? AleHop, you (and maure) should not feel so threatened. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. We are a group of friends here. We disagree over most issues, but we are a wonderful group. Your choice: to enjoy the friendliness and also discuss about every issue, to float in and out without mingling but without attacking, either (DOF_Renault comes to mind) or to start a war against the whole forum. If the latter, then stand it like a man. Crying unfairness is, pardon the paradox, unfair.

Will he sob and yell at you? Nope. We all know why. I don't feel threatened, why should I? Sure, it is true that I have been insulted from the very first post in the forum (I asked if only Alonso was to blame for the mess at McLaren). However, those insults amuse me, pure and simple. How can I not be amused? Some posters claim that a driver and a teamboss have equal responsibilities, another one claims that that is normal even if there is 2-second difference between teammates on a race that decides a WC, another poster claims he has a right to _hate_ Alonso because someone asked how we expect teams to do next season, and so on. I thank the mentality of the mob for hours of entertainment. The bottom line is that there are a lot inmature characters around here that side with _who_ is saying something rather than with _what_ is being said. Making themselves look like fools often, they respond with tantrums. I only respond to these infantile breakdowns to demonstrate the futility and wil continue to do so as long as I am amused by it. And, yes, if Alehop would have made a fool of Murray like DOF_Renault did in the other topic, insults would have been flying instantly.

And, yes, if Alehop would have made a fool of Murray like DOF_Renault did in the other topic, insults would have been flying instantly. Maure, are you a believer in conspiracy theories? Because that's what you are implying... There is another explanation: - Everyone has their own opinion - That opinion may differ from your own (sometimes it will, sometimes it won't) - YOUR reaction to their differences of opinion is to react strongly and to blame it as some form group hysteria (i.e. you are saying, "I am right and they are all ganging up on me as they are buddies") - The reason why they might appear to be ganging up is because, maybe you are more extreme in expressing your views than most and trigger a reaction I think a sense of perspective is called for here - its just discussion about F1 and you shouldn't take comments about Alonso so personally. Ultimately if he is the best driver he'll prove it on the track. And as for Ron and Lewis, sure they made mistakes, but you don't have to go on an on about it. And, yes, if Alehop would have made a fool of Murray like DOF_Renault did in the other topic, insults would have been flying instantly. See, there you go again. There is nothing at all hysterical about any of my posts, or many other people's posts, which you label 'hysterical'. The fact that you are of the type of personality that allows you to believe that others get hysterical because of your posts, says more about you, than any of the people you are trying to insult. Indeed, the fact that you believe people would side with a 'buddy' even when saying something that they completely disagree with, is also a good indication. You can try and play the innocent victim and pretend that your first post was a simple question, but it was in fact a typical post of yours when responding to someone you dont agree with - it was sarcastic and pretty much completely irrelevant. It is a trait that has been confirmed by most of your posts since. It might surprise you to know that although Andres (Quiet One) and I are very good friends on here, we more often that not disagree with each other's opinions and have done from the start. Yet neither of us insulted or attacked the other, but we have always enjoyed a good banter with each other. We have had many discussions where we have disagreed with each other and in fact we have many differing views on many things, probably more than we actaully agree on, yet we still remain friends. Your posts in this thread, at the very least, show that you cannot be civil towards me (and to quite a few other people who don't agree with you) so I shall not even try to engage in any discussions with you, there is just no point. As I said earlier, lesson learnt. If you do want to have any civil discussions, then fine, I don't bear any grudges, but otherwise I shall just accept that we can't have a civil discussion and leave it at that.
