Kimi has stated that Ferrari are not a contender this years title because of the diffuser issue?

Well correct me if I am wrong, but Qualy for China has gone to a driver/car that does NOT have this U beaut diffuser!! I believe that Red Bull was one of those that questioned the legality of it!

So I guess the question needs to be asked!

Is this diffuser so much of an advantage as reported, or is it that some of those teams without it have worked a way around the so called benefits?

Well obviously the Ferrari has many more problems with their car than just the diffuser, same goes for Mclaren, and then you gotta consider Macca's turmoil over "lie-gate" and Ferrari's strategy woes; they are in the s##t. Looking at it that way, Kimi is quite right.

Reports about the diffuser laptime benefit vary from 0.5 - 1.0 second. There is no doubt that Brawn have produced a strong car in all areas, Red Bull also are looking rather good, maybe once RB get a diffuser at Monaco they will be half a second clear.

my point exactly. All this hype of the diffuser is not really playing out now. Yep Brawn cars are fast but RB cars seem to be up with the best without this trick diffuser!!!

Guess time will tell but it is sure nice to see others then McLaren, Ferrari up front for a change :-)

It's pretty clear everyone ought to be copying Red Bull too. It seems they have great mechanical grip, which paid dividends in the wet. You need Brawn's aero package and Red Bull's suspension etc, if you can find a way to combine them.

I think it has become quite clear today the diffuser is not as big an advantage as first thought. Brawn GP have the best car in the dry but in the wet where the aero is less important than Mechanical grip, the Red Bull is ahead. I think come the time Red Bull have the diffuser they will be on a par with Brawn GP, but I don't see McLaren/Ferrari/Renault/BMW getting their acts together by just having the diffuser, their cars are lacking in more areas than that! BMW though have had almost as big a fall from grace as ferrari, I would say bigger infact as they moved to development on this car far earlier than Macca/ferrari!

I believe Ferrari will come back easily as they have extra USD80m money from FIA for so many years.

In addition, they are always supported by FIA whenever possible.

You know that's not it. Ferrari and McLaren simply got it wrong. Renault was denied the diffuser and BMW was stalled. FIA screwed both over quite profoundly.

RBR was the other team that was denied the diffuser by FIA (rumor has it that RBR's diffuser was the most similar to BGP's). They've suffered a great deal too from FIA's meddling. The thing about RBR is that they were the ones that should've been leading the championship because they were the ones that have built the best legal car. In all truth, no one has been screwed over by the FIA's cheat more than RBR so it's good to see them up there.

Kimi's right about that one. It will be very hard for them to cath up.

Ferrari and Mclaren have built quite good cars just not as aerodynamically efficient as the top ones.

BMW's problem is far worse, cause their car seems to handle like a drunk man and they don't really know why.

But sometimes it's used like an excuse. I'm not talking about RBR. They should be leading both Championships but I think they'll finish on top sooner or later. They have a couple of good drivers and an amazing car.

I personally think it is GREAT to have teams other then Ferari/fia and Mclaren NOT at the top of the list :-)

Makes for a more enjoyable viewing sport. Unfortunately I missed the China race, the bloody recorder didn't work, but I am sure pleased that Red Bull Lived up to what they have been saying for a while, and that is that they are competitive, even without the trick diffuser..
