I have never called you stupid. In fact I have never called a non-stupid person stupid. (I think that is one of my finest quotable lines :D)

Really? Bad news, I don't follow your code, stupid :P

Anyway, I know some of my posting hasn't been of a very high standard, and which has meant that posts I put a lot more effort in also end up being ignored, so I'll try to do better. Not having to read posts from a certain person has done wonders to my enjoyment of the forum :D

Nobody is forced to post high standard stuff, otherwise some of us would have to quit altogether (of course, I am not talking about me, but about Paul, that lousy c#ckroach. But it really bothers sometimes to have a carefully constructed post (right or wrong) only to watch it dissed just for fun. I have no problems in engaging in almost any discussion, and when I find some topic or approach I specially dislike I just avoid it altogether. But sometimes it is just too frsutrating as it really takes a lot of effort to explain some things and the feeling of walking through mud makes many times not worthwhile to keep pushing on if somebody will just go in there and utter some wind up bulls##t just to have a cheap laugh. That does not mean I love having a laugh as well. In fact, I can hardly remain on topic or make more than 2 serious comments in a row.

But I am ranting, in any case, no hard feelings. At least I know I can come back at you with equal aggresiveness and that will be ok. I just don't enjoy it as you do. And it really makes me mad when I can't even afford the luxury of replying in the same tone, or when the aggresiveness is not even accompanied with some discernible trace of human intelligence behind. That line of argument usually does not intimidate anybody, quite the contrary, makes every side become even more partisan in their views until both sides are maintining totally preposterous premises.

Damn! Why can't I keep on topic? Anyways, whatever. Group hug. I'm tired. Goodnight.

A little examination of thread trends and member manners...

To reply to a sensible post with a sensible one is fine.

To answer a humorous post with a funny one is fine too.

To fight sarcasm with sarcasm is all well and good.

To answer an agressive post agressively might well be okay (though its the least fun of all)

The problems occur when people accidently misjudge (or deliberately misconstrue) a sensible post for a silly one, or a silly post for a sarcastic one or a sarcastic post for an agressive one.

They then answer in kind and things elevate until a sensible discussion becomes agressive.

For example...

Billy: Erectile disfunction is a growing problem in the world today. Why could that be? (sensible)

Gerald: Haha - you said erectile! (silly)

Billy: Oh - and here's mister mature come to share his wisdom. (sarcastic)

Gerald: **** you limp d#ck! (agressive)

When necessary I try to do the opposite - but that can be very hard (apart from being sarcastic in the face of agression - that's rather fun, though not entirely helpful). To be polite and reasoned in the face of agression, sarcasm or silliness requires huge amounts of patience and often unearned respect. It can be enormously frustrating too - especially when someone insists on remaining agressive, benile or childish in the face of your attempts to show them respect.

Often threads are started already at the silly or sarcastic stage. From there its almost impossible to turn it into a sensible discussion, but as long as it remains silly or sarcastic, I see no harm.

Silly threads are great fun - and we've had plenty here that prove that.

Sensible threads are also fun - it is immensly satisfying to pit your wits against an equally respectful opponent.

Agressive threads may well be cathartic to some people, so I think its best that they are allowed to indulge in them.

Conclusion...

I don't really have one - I was just thinking out loud.

EDIT - **** me - terrible English fixed - Dribs quoted me before I changed it so I can't get away with it now.

What the hell is up with Mommies-who-pick-their-kids-up-from-school!?? Would it be too much trouble to acknowledge my existence long enough for me to pull out of my parking space? Are you threatened because there's suddenly a pen!s in your estrogen soup? Am I invading your cozy realm? It would do well for you pampered, arrogant Mommies to realize that your husbands are out working to pay for this school you pretend to own and, while we're at it, he's paying for your manicure, pedicure and your goddamn huge SUV to cart your goddamn huge arse around! Come to think of it, when I'm not on vacation and taking my daughters to school, I'm working hard to pay for this school too! But I have my daughters in the car and I must set a good example so I wait and talk about their homework and keep looking for an opening in the tight congo-line of ovaries-in-SUVs until one wonderful person notices me with my arse half out of the parking space and lets me pull out.

Wouldn't you know it? That nice person was another dad.

Seriously though, I may have stood up for Steph, but I would stand up for you too if she said something nasty about you.

Nope, you haven't, ever, and there have been plenty of times you could have.

if it does ask yourself why you think you feel a bit alienated.

I don't feel alienated, I don't care enough to feel alienated, I was just saying that there might be something to the whole inner circle thing.

But it really bothers sometimes to have a carefully constructed post (right or wrong) only to watch it dissed just for fun.

If this is about my post, I meant what I said mostly, I do feel you're being intellectually dishonest about the whole penalty issue and were trying to stir things up a bit, hence the abrasiveness of my posts. Maybe there is a slim chance you actually believe that the rules were crystal clear, that it is a honestly held if rather absurd opinion.

Exactly. And I got a little scratch on my hand a few weeks ago. Childbirth? Pah. Women don't know the meaning of pain! :P

Though Steph does make being a man sound quite fun... I'm off to check out some ladies' funbags.

No, I believe passing dried, constipated, huge-rock like turd out of your a## is way more painful than ejecting a baby out of your vag.

Glad you don't feel alienated. But there's no inner circle. Its only there if you let it be.

I think thats what I meant to say. You have to excuse my brain. Its not working that well!

I call you out on that. Lets see the video!

No need.

Ask a woman after her first child whether she will have any more and quite often the answer will be 'probably' or 'in the nextcouple of years', etc, etc. Ask a man after being kicked in the bollocks if he wants it done again.......ever.

My case rests :whistling:

Maybe there is a slim chance you actually believe that the rules were crystal clear, that it is a honestly held if rather absurd opinion.

It wasn't about your post. And we are already discussing the penalty in like a million threads so I won't extend myself a lot here but that is an excellent example of what happens on most arguments when they are taken aggresively and the problem with perceptions:

1) My first post on your hahaha thread was to inform about the penalty, about 3 hours after the race (race ended around 11 am my time, the post was made at 2:01 pm my time). A little later (2:09pm) I said:

I saw the replay and I think iut was just killer instinct from Schumi. Those kind of things make you a champion or the guy that ends up behind a Toro Rosso. He gambled. And lost. But (umlike other memorable moments from him) I don't think this was particularly a blatant attempt to bend the rules. He acted on instinct and was well played. I bet Nando would have done the same

2) Then at 4.06pm George gave a perfect sum up of my position which happened to be FIAs and some others, once the rulebook was applied. But the aggresivenes still escalated and that made ME think that you and others were being intellectualy dishonest. So everybody starts making sarcastic comments and other people using those as proof that they are suuporting absurd POVs. And suddenly you find yourself either seemingly supporting them or being perceived as such. For example: I never supported the idea that the rules were crystal clear and even mentioned many times that he lights issue was at least contradictory with the rule.

3) So if you missed me saying the exact opposite of what you think it is my "absurd position" it is just because:

a) YOU are the guy being intellectually dishonest here :P You just pick my sarcasms and try to pass them as my core arguments when my core arguments were clearly different.

B) The whole mud slinging style makes trying to have a sensible, fair POV (whether you success or fail is another story, but the intent is certainly there) useless as it will be treated as just another cheap dig and lost in a thread filled with crossed personal attacks.

So no, I wasn't being intellectually honest. And I do not think the rule was crystal clear. Anyways, this is not about Monaco, but it was a good example on how a good debate was ruined because people is more focused on humiliating the adversary than on actually asess the situation on track or whatever we are discussing.

Such arguments have no end, and have no purpose. For a person with strong points of view I'd rather debate with Mike. He can make his statements with strong words and come as aggresive to those who don't know him. When I argue with him I know I have to turn my aggresive style up a notch or two before joining the scrum. But he can (and actually does many times) pay attention to what you read and either changes his opinion if he thinks you are right or agrees to disagree (and, more often than not, made me change my own initial stance on some issue). He never keeps uttering derisive comments towards people that don't see things the way he sees them. That's his style.

I have a style, too, I guess (which is probably "writing loads of uncomprehensible words in every post until everybody else fell asleep). Your style calls for a lot of sarcasm mixed with your reasoning. Each style has its benefits and its flaws. As long as we all acknowledge that, we can find our way and move on, I guess.
