Never mind my 5 brain cells, I just don't like moderation in general. And so as you can imagine, I like Cav's fiery posts. Like you say, it's obvious Jay means no harm.

You can write fiery posts without calling other forum members dishonest.

OK, here's my rant:

WHY THE HELL IS THERE A RULE ABOUT NO PASSING ON THE LAST LAP IF THE SAFETY CAR HAS RUN IT?? WHAT'S THE POINT IN FLAGGING THE TRACK GREEN, PULLING IN THE SAFETY CAR AND NOT LETTING THE DRIVERS RACE?? WHAT THE HELL COULD POSSIBLY BE GAINED BY HAVING SUCH AN ASININE RULE IN PLACE?? THEY SHOULD HAVE ENDED THE RACE UNDER THE SAFETY CAR AND GIVEN MAYLANDER FIRST PLACE!! IS THIS F1 OR KINDERGARTEN?? FOR CRISSAKE, I'M NOT A SCHUMACHER FAN BUT THIS GUTTED THE ONLY MOVE WORTH REMEMBERING FROM THIS SLEEPY THRICE-BEDAMNED RACE!!

JEEBUS, I'M GONNA GO WATCH LAWNMOWER RACING.

ok, I'm done.

It's never good to see a poster who made such sound contributions to the forum leave, especially if it was because of some kind of dispute or issue with the forum itself. Thankfully Chris never made any sound contributions so it doesn't really matter. Joke :P

Anyhow, he'll be back, they always come back eventually (example: Eric).

Same for Eric. Eric's left once again after he's said he's lost interest in Formula One.

Your facts are half-right. I never said I had left TF1; I just said I didn't have anything to post here because I don't follow F1 in the least anymore, hence I've been keeping quiet. Added to that, a lot of posters have just been getting a bit annoying to me, so rather than get sucked into attacking them, I just keep my distance from the threads. That said, I'm still here. I haven't left; I'm just not going to post to hear myself type when I have little to offer in regards to F1 discussions. If I see a reason to reply (as I did now), I will. :)

My reason for not enjoying F1, by the way, has nothing to do with "OMG NO OVERTAKING" or "OMG NO STRATEGY" as much as I just lose interest in everything after a while; I like change and hate routines. I don't think F1 needs radical rules changes or anything like that. It's like American football to me; I just don't care about it anymore. I don't demand they change it so I will care about it, rather, I've just found other things to do with my time. The real world has been beckoning recently, too, being busy with schoolwork, mentoring primary and secondary schoolers, having something resembling a girlfriend, etc, and I enjoy all of those things so much more than anything else (the mentoring and the girl...schoolwork, well, I'm not a whiny bratty teenager "waah I'm a victim" type so I don't mind it, but it's something I don't enjoy when I have it and complain of boredom when I don't).

Above all, I'd just rather live my weekends around my real life and whatever I want to do when I feel like doing it and not around "OH I GOTTA GO TO BED AT 9 SO I CAN WAKE UP FOR THE RACE" and all that. Routines suck and it's so much more fun to just make the most of the last year I have until I move out and go on to uni and all that.

Enjoy the rest of the season and you'll be hearing from me when you need to, because I haven't left and don't plan to really do so.

Anyhow, he'll be back, they always come back eventually (example: Eric).

Indeed.

I probably am wrong since I know nothing about this. And I didn't mean to single you out as the moderator of that thread - I was talking about the general reaction from lots of people to lighthearted posts from lots of other people in that thread. Tbh that thread reminded me of the Stanford prison experiment! And also my high school Young Enterprise project - some people get very keen about organising things and other people are less keen, and that causes tensions. The other issue is that it seems to me that all sorts of people have been overly sensitive recently!

[boxing gloves on]

I didn't take your post as an attack on my role as a moderator on the F1 thred. I didn't even thought all this was related to that thread.

But let's talk about the TF1 Debate thread. As so many of you, old friends, have been noticing and bitching about from your golden self exile status, the Forum has been taking some dips in quality of posts. About the few that did anything else besides coming every now and then and cry about how good were things when Bajo and Senna were here (I've only been areund since the last days of Bajo, and never met Senna) Steph was one of the main pushing forces to keep this forum afloat. She proposed to bring back interesting debates on F1 and at the same time added some ingredients she liked. Me, being a rather chaotic kind of guy, thought immediately about a usual debate (a la hahahaetc. thread, but with somebody moderating the thread and being able to avoid things going ugly like they did there and people from being not just argumentative but plainly obnoxious. Adam, being more structured than me had another idea. Mike, yet another. Probably none of ours were as Steph's original idea, yet many of us agreed and started giving our feedback. Adam, being more bold, decided to jump right into it. I don't like the idea of a structured debate, and I think that the subject chosen was way too "uncontroversial" to rise the temperature high enough for an interesting debate. But that is my opinion and I decided to see how it worked, even if I didn't exactly agree with Adam's terms.

Others made their criticisms.

What p**ses me off is people downright sabotaging the thread because they didn't like it (The first post by Adam stated in big, capital letters "please do not post anything") first joke by Chris was expected and not really harmful. But after that seemed like just a matter of "hey, let's just don't give a damn about whatever Adam stipulated just to show how displeased we are". If you had any criticisms, you had Steph's thread to rant about it. If you didn't like the idea altogether you could have easily ignore the thread. But to ruin an idea, whether good or not, then cry that the Forum is going down and call the few people that stays here day after day for being "hyper sensitive" is just ridiculous.

Sorry, most of you I consider you my friends, more so than other people that stood here while you guys were away coming only once in a blue moon hinting at how low this forum's level has gotten. I respect your choices, I enjoy the few times I read one of your posts, but I don't empathize (word?) with tthe criticism if it is not accompanied with any effort to rise up to the challenge.

Never mind my 5 brain cells, I just don't like moderation in general. And so as you can imagine, I like Cav's fiery posts. Like you say, it's obvious Jay means no harm.

Cav (and Maure, and Tommy, and anybody else you might think of) can be great additions to the forum, they can also be ridiculously insulting for no apparent reason. I can cope with Cav, most of the time, because (I guess) he knows that he risks being bitten back every once and then. I like slight levels of moderation. How much? In what cases? That will always be subjective. I disagreed with many decisions made against Cav in the past. But, he and Maure like to raise hell against them. Sometimes it is fun to watch, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it is fun to participate, sometimes it isn't. I can't expect a tailor made moderation that plays in myu favor only when I get tired of Cavs or Maure's tirades. So I decide when to read and enjoy two of the most brilliant posters we have here when they decide to be like that, and simply ignore them other times. I know they play rough. As far as they accept to pay the price it's their choice.

Now, you complaint of this forum being too "sanitised". Is that why you only come back now only every now and then and mostly to try to wind up guys like Alex and me? Why is that? I don't like to post because I felt offended or out of pure frustration as when Tommy acts like a complete idiot or you just come with a few lines "pour epater le burgeois". If you think that is funny, well, I don't.

I can be as vitriolic as the next guy. I can be much worse. I just don't want to. It's my choice. I like to have fun, being silly and learn and enjoy friendship.

If you don't like people being easygoing and sometimes arguing strongly but loyally (as Mike does, for example) then why don't you all just go to PlanetF1 forums? There's plenty of trolls and moaners there.

You think I am being oversensitive? Do you think I am overreacting? Do you think I have no right to say this? Hey, this is a fiery post. This is an angry post from somebody that has put a lot on these forums whether for better or worse. This isn't a sanitised post. This is my rant. You want a bitter Quiet One? You can have it and I bet your first reaction would have been something like:

" Ahh, it's good to see you like that! You were too PC all the time" or something like that as if disappointing me was some kind of achievement and something I would enjoy.

Here, this is my rant, and this how I feel. If this is what it takes to have Chris, John and you back, then you can have the Forum. I still consider you my friends (I am upset, I am not berserk about you people) but I don't want to be part of a place where coming every now and complaint is considered better than staying around and trying to do something good even if it comes out wrong or not to my taste.

Suck it up, act like men and post something of value. Or quit the bitching about the old times. (I should have posted just this line, but I like the extra punishment of having you reading the whole post)

[/boxing gloves off]

PS: As usual, I chose just your post for convenience sake, Muzza, I am not particularly focusing my reply on you except where noted.

:) No problem. I need to sleep and have a think how to reply to most of what you said but for now I'll just say the following. I'm very sorry if I offended or upset you or anyone else - that was never the goal of any post I made. It's true I enjoy teasing people by making dumb posts but only people who can fend for themselves, like you or Maure for example. If I wasn't very fond of you, I wouldn't bother winding you up so much but perhaps I should show my affection differently in future. I like cuddles! :D

.........the Forum has been taking some dips in quality of posts.

Subjective surely?

About the few that did anything else besides coming every now and then and cry about how good were things when Bajo and Senna were here (I've only been areund since the last days of Bajo, and never met Senna)

At that time, there were also far more vitriolic (not just argumentative) posts too - that guy from Norway, a tad racist? But, point taken.

People don't wander off to another thread to rant, they respond there and then. Just an observation, not saying it's right or wrong!

I don't think anyone here pays a price Andres. Whether they do or not doesn't bother me. But from your comments in this post, I've not seen you take the same 'stance' (sorry, I'm in a rush!) with Cav, Maure or anyone else that's rattled cages, so why now?

Here, this is my rant, and this how I feel. If this is what it takes to have Chris, John and you back, then you can have the Forum. I still consider you my friends (I am upset, I am not berserk about you people) but I don't want to be part of a place where coming every now and complaint is considered better than staying around and trying to do something good even if it comes out wrong or not to my taste.

Nice rant :P

Though I am still a little confused as to why you're so rantified. At the point when some comments appeared that made it obvious no comments off-topic were to be posted, both Chris and myself apologised and (more or less?!) left the thread alone - but if he or I were seen to be purposely disrupting the thread (which I took the comments to be), then not only would I dispute it vigorously, I'd like to see which parts p**sed people off so much... at least I'll know for the future which tiny bit stuck in their throat, so I can avoid it when it's important, and use it to wind some pillocks up when it's not ;)

At one point, I was sad enough to count the off-topic comments (I think there was a couple of pages at that point); there were 15 OT posts, with a good number from those meant to be taking part in the debate, so, a few contradictions there - and for some, the question had to be asked, for all the comments about de-railing the thread, every single person involved has done exactly the same on many, many other threads. For me, that's not a big deal, and I thought the contradiction was quite funny, but it could be a big deal for people with a different point of view to yours or mine. But isn't that the nature of any forum?

Like Chris, I was thinking of giving this place a rest for some time, mainly due work and some health things I need to sort out - so giving the forum a rest isn't simply a matter of, "It's not the same", "I wish it was like the old days" or anything else, simply that some little things might be put on the back-burner whilst more pressing things in life are dealt with, and I think that's the case for many that have taken a break.

Anyway, your post was huge, I'm at work and rushing, your reply was probably to Graham and none of my business - so apologies in advance if anything upsets anyone ever again, for time immemorial :P

I'd like to not have to try and hold back sometimes from giving a couple of people here a massive verbal. Just basically because they rattle my cage big time and the Sh#t they type is vindictive, trolling, nasty and contradictory spew. If I'd come across them, they'd run home and continue being keyboard warriors. But, sometimes its better to not lower yourself to the same standards.

I cant say it any plainer.

As for Cav, we need a controversial poster around that stirs things up. Sometime I blow hot over his silly comments (especially about Kimi) but the thing is he gets poster's to react. I consider him a very intelligent person/poster.

Maure has been a bit disappointing....

Dear all

As Steph has mentioned I’m not coming here from now onwards– I was not intending to post anything, just quietly go off. But Steph told me she was posting something and suggested I look. I felt I should say something (and thanks for the kind comments).

There’s a lot of supposition here about my motives andrather than guessing – here it is. If you don’t like this posting or think I’ma pillock, frankly I don’t care :) because I am a pillock :D

Firstly I have fallen out of love with F1. This is not a sudden thing and has been coming on for a long time. Bear in mind I have been watching it for the best part of 4 decades (no old comments please…. I started young). It’s a combination of things – not liking the over-regulation, finding the inconsistent rule-making annoying, fed up with the endless politics and scandals, UK commentary irritating and basically lack of racing/overtaking disappointing. I watched all the races this year until Monaco. Australia was boring and processional, the wet races were OK, Spain was boring and processional. It was this race that range the alarm bells – why am I watching something that is only good when it is wet (steady Meds! :D ). I switched on qualifying and the race whilst on my laptop and throughout both only looked up once or twice at the screen. I realised it had become a habit –a bit like smoking, hard to stop.

Some of you say: “this is what makes F1 what it is”.

Fine.

Not for me. Not now, anyway.

So after 37 years of watching I tried an experiment and forthe first time I can recall - voluntarily did not watch the race. You know. It felt good. I used the time to do other things. I did not miss it.

I am watching Indycar instead – which I have watched for years. Far from perfect, but a lot more overtaking and seems not to suffer from some of the crap that plagues the F1 circus, which to be honest has become too bloated, driven by money/politics and self-indulgent.

Will I go back? I don’t know. Not this season. Maybe not next. F1 needs to go through an evolution.

Now onto the forum.

1) What is the point in my coming into an F1 forum when I am not watching the racing? Whilst I enjoy the banter that is not enough especially if you are talking about stuff I have not seen and the friends I have made I can still communicate with through other means (and I do).

2) I have not been on the forum much lately – work commitments have been so heavy I have just not had time. Occasionally I have made a foray and it has been hard work whenever I have. I have a style of not taking things too seriously and this seems to p**s some people off. Now normally, this does not bother me. But if on a rare visit, you get loads of flak you have to ask yourself – what is the point?

3) The debate thread. A good idea. Not my personal cup of tea, but I respect it is a good idea – like most of Steph’s and I had no intention of disrupting it. Some of you mistook the pre-debate banter for me disagreeing with the concept or trying to knacker it. No. It was just me being me as I am in all threads and I have to say that many of you were being way,way too over-sensitive. For anyone to consider a public electronic forum thread having a “do not step on the grass” sign, it is frankly laughable and naieve. I did as I said I would and did not disrupt it once underway. But really guys, you need to lighten up.

4) I have also found recently that TF1 has developed a bit of an “inner circle” recently and has become a bit cliquey. I think this has detracted from the forum a little.

5) Final straw was a comment by Cav. In his usualranty style he went off on one and started writing his usual hypocritical stuff and dissing things I had written (again) and described most of my posts as “rubbish”. Normally, I would just go: “whatever…” but given 2) above just made me think what is the point? Why am I reading this tripe? Frankly I am too busy in my work and personal life and have no desire to waste my time orthat of others reading tripe or writing things which people do not want to read. You could accuse me of being over-sensitive, maybe. But actually, there was the realisation that this should be fun and it wasn’t. So I decided to do something else more fulfilling and that does not involve F1 in any way.

So there you have it.

If anyone wants to contact me my email address is in my profile.

Working on the principle that you'll just have to take a look over your shoulder as you walk away ;) ..........

Between you and I:

Re 4 and 5 - I agree completely, though I find most forums have the same.

I must admit that, just as there was a 'defining moment' for you, when Adam replied to Cav with this:

1) Look at the global warming thread - it will show you exactly what a decent debate can be and exactly why there are certain people here who will never let that happen in an open thread. It's exactly the same people - the ones who think they already know everything, so it's absolutely impossible and pointless to have a debate with them involved.

....I thought it was a out of order considering the amount of larking about type-threads Adam participated in. Not to mention Cav giving up on the thread purely because no-one was agreeing with him, but, no change there.

So, when Cav posted this:

I'll get something up by the end of today

...I just wanted to say, "Yeah, Adam's cock"

But then, even though Cav wouldn't mind, it just wouldn't be funny.

Anyway, I agree entirely with your 5), and I have to say you make total sense, but that's just between you and I ;)

Maure has been a bit disappointing....

I agree we need slight levels of moderation, but is'nt that what we find on here.

I mentioned them 3 so everybody can understand from their point of view how bad it feels to be insulted or long, exhaustive replies you wrote with great effort being dismissed with either a non sequitur or a derisive comment.

Personally, my relationship with Maure is excelent, there is a lot of respect bewteen both and chatting with him is like having a drink in some quiet corner in a garden. I can barely complaint. Tommy is a good guy, I know it, you know it. But he also loves to wind up people, mostly Alex and me, and we have our hands tied as any reply in the same terms will be dismissed as "Alonso fans are irrational". So we have to patiently explain our POVs, with the added effort of writing in a foreign language. Some people msut be driven crazy with their arguments with Maure whne he goes on with the lewisteric thing. Some people goes crazy when Cav keeps saying calling you stupid and the moment you snap he replies with a nonchalantly "now you resort to personal insults" or something like that. Yet I am used to argue with Cav and I know it is worth it because every now and then he delivers beautiful pieces of logically contructed replies.

Why do they enjoy acting like trolls? I don't know. Sometimes I do it, I am not innocent, but I think my trolling levels are rather low (if not, please let me know)

Chris/John, I will reply to you later at home when I got time. But I am confused about that sort of inner circle you mention because I think I spend quite a lot of time around the Forum and yet I fail to see it.

I've noticed an "Inner Circle" composed of the older/most contributive members but that has been always the case and you guys were part of it, and it was a natural thing, not something done on purpose to keep the new peeps apart, albeit it works like it. Some people have jumped right into the inner circle with just a few posts (I am thinking about Senna's Ghost, with his high quality posts, or David/Persevere) and other people took quite a long time to become part of it (I've been posting for many months before I felt "one of the guys" here, even though I was welcome since the beginning)

I am not sure what you mean.

Ok. Change of subject.

Abid Naseer.

The 24 year old al-Qaida agent who was planning a mass-casualty attack in NW England. He won his case to live in England and avoided deportation back to pakistan, because if he was deported he'd face being tortured.

So. Its Ok for him to potentially torture, maim and kill tens of thousands of innocent civilians, not including the families of potential victims who would have to cope with devastating loss and grief. Children as potential victims never being given a chance at life. Parents lost. Kids orphaned, having to go through the social caring system.

It makes me sick to the stomach to think that he and his partner in terror are allowed to stay. Me? Bring back capital punishment for murderers, rapists, paedophiles, terrorists and drug running scum.

I don't know however if it is the real truth why he is allowed to stay, some are no doubt kept to question and interrogate. I don't know. But I know that their human rights should be taken from them.

Its disgusting. Why are we not doing anything to change this?
