Dawn 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Nah, that was just me doing a lame joke about my age. Yes, they are an old band I recall dancing to Zobi La Mouche at almost every party. They were halfway between Kusturica and Mano Negra. A good band indeed. Oh! Give me some time on this forum, I'll start getting the jokes then! You're the old one, point noted, nice intro! dribbler 6 Report post Posted January 2, 2010 I love The Guillemots. They haven't hit it big yet and in a way I hope they don't (whatever 'big' means, these days). The front man is called Fyfe Dangerfield. This is from his soon to be released solo effort. I think it's fine. The very beginning of the verse reminds me a little of "Every Day People". The lead break is typically Dangerfield; not so obvious or easy to 'get' on the first listen. I love this sort of unpredictability. The build up to the chorus (where he sings "This is where I want to be")could be a chorus in itself, but as always, Fyfe gives you a bit more than that. By the time he is belting out "She needs me" we are deep into anthem territory. I highly recommend his bands album 'Through The Windowpane' and an EP called 'From The Cliffs' which has a hauntingly beautiful tune on it called 'Over The Stairs'. I hope Dangerfield gets the critical acclaim he so richly, in my opinion, deserves. Hoorah! something to celebrate in current music.
Quiet One 15 Report post Posted January 2, 2010 Watched it. And I felt pretty, and witty, and gay. , is my favorite of the day. Why? Because lyrics are beautiful, the video is beautiful and because of the Fisher Price, they were my favorite toys when I was little. They are still at my mother's house and my nephews and nieces still play with them and they also love them. 'Nuff said.

Rainmaster 7 Report post Posted January 7, 2010 You posted stone roses links on my birthday! I love you I bludgeon people to death for saying that their eponymous album is not the best album ever. Anyone? Good, we're all in agreement then. No problem, I aim to please. Yes, it is of course truly brilliant although I'm still discovering it little by little each time I play it. Brown's voice is just fantastic. Current favourite Stone Roses track: I wonder if I could kick Ian Brown's face clean off with one kick or whether it would take two. It might take three to eliminate all traces of arrogance. It comes with the job description.

Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Last Friday i was at the River Plate stadium watching the Metallica Concert. The Nothing else matters+Enter sandman medley was epic! I prefer 'One'. Tune gets me rockin' like I'm on a plane's wings. Darkness Imprisoning me All that I see Absolute horror I cannot live I cannot die Trapped in myself Body my holding cell Landmine has taken my sight Taken my speech Taken my hearing Taken my arms Taken my legs Taken my soul Left me with life in hell Absolutely love that riff. Really really brilliant song.

Persevere 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2010 I knew Charlie Gillett by name only, but the "air waves" have been filled with tributes following his recent passing. Can anyone provide a bit more background? Also, the recent death of Alex Chilton gave me pause. Certainly I remember the Box Tops and kept apprised of his solo and group endeavors that followed. His live appearances always sparked noise and excitement amongst the aficionados.
Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2010 Chart music is actually really beginning to p**s me off. The stuff thats being released is p**s poor. Maybe its because I'm getting older but what the f*ck? I mean..... more or less every song has a heavy beat, lots of bass and a rap in the middle by some twat who thinks its cool to be a pimp or whatever the kids are saying these days. There is one song however I have grown a bit attached to. Its called Fireflies I think and I have no idea who sings it. Its a lovely little melody and cleverly written. A rare glimpse of talent in an ocean of robotic, monotonous, useless drivel. I'm bored of the 21st century. We need to find our individuality again, people are so busy trying to be individual they are actually following a crowd to do this. Talent is dire. Take Lady Gaga. She's great on the piano. But a godawful singer. Her sense of 'style' hides this well. We need to stop this celebrity culture, it spreads like a disease.

Rainmaster 7 Report post Posted May 3, 2010 Yeah, I don't think it's been much of a decade for music in the UK (generally speaking of course). Sadly I think the whole "heavy beat, lots of bass and a rap in the middle" trend is likely to continue for some time. Shame. Meanwhile, Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd provides an antidote: Hello, Is there anybody in there Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone at home Come on now I hear you're feeling down I can ease your pain And get you on your feet again Relax I'll need some information first Just the basic facts Can you show me where it hurts There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain, you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb O.K. Just a little pin prick There'll be no more aaaaaaaah! But you may feel a little sick Can you stand up? I do believe it's working, good That'll keep you going through the show Come on it's time to go. There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone And I have become Comfortably numb. I can't believe Jeff Lynne didn't produce their first CD - sounds very ELO to me. I like the light and heavy contrast in the song development - very dramatic. Songs are on the border between introspect and despair but I find most 'new' music is. The fun seems to have gone out of music. Getting 'big' isn't such a great deal - it just creates a 'feeding frenzy' for managers, agents and record companies. It destroys relationships in bands and more importantly, the creative process. The thing is, you will probably sell more records on the road and the web if you control it yourself anyway. Dangerfield has a level of rawness and off-the-wall imagination that I like - hope it earns them a living.
dribbler 6 Report post Posted May 4, 2010 Dangerfield has a level of rawness and off-the-wall imagination that I like. My thoughts precisely. It's exactly what draws me to anything he does. Hadn't considered the Lynne influence before. Normally I tune into anything Lynne-esque on a first encounter. I'll just have to listen to it all again, right now! Shani 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2010 She smiled in a big way, the way a girl like that smiles When the world is hers and she held your eyes Out in the breezeway down by the shore in the lazy summer And she pulled you in, and she bit your lip, and she made you hers She looked deep into you as you lay together quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer But you've already lost When you only had barely enough to hang on And she combed your hair, and she kissed your teeth And she made you better than you'd been before She told you bad things you wished you could change in the lazy summer And she told you, laughing down to her core, so she would not cry as she lay in your lap She said "nobody here can live forever, quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer" But you've already lost When you only had barely enough to hang on She said, "no one is alone the way you are alone" And you held her looser than you would have if you ever could have known Some things tie your life together, slender threads and things to treasure Days like that should last and last and last But you've already lost When you only had barely enough of her to hang on

I am so over Lady Gaga, I honestly don't get the worshipping of her, she isn't original in the slightest, she copies everyone from Bowie, to Madonna, to even Kylie and Britney! Her music is ok but it's nothing groundbreaking. Though I am still a fan of chart music on a whole but thats mainly due to the fact I go out a lot to bars and clubs and thats the music played and as such it's the music I hear the most! dribbler 6 Report post Posted March 3, 2011 With all the unrest in the Middle East, I am considering a 'day of rage' against all music forms that fall into the category of 'made for the masses for commercial gain'. This will involve a march in Trafalgar Square calling for the slaying of the majority of the parasitic figures in the music industry. Anyone want to join me?
