Check out some Alice Russell if you like Quantic...very techno/hip-hop/blues from a little white girl that has more soul than a caucasian has a right to have. Can I be smug and say that I loved them from the start? Guy Garvey has always had overtones of Peter Gabriel and by his own admission is a big fan of all thing Fripp. It's contemporary progressive rock combined with slightly more accessible (but not too dumbed down) arrangements. 'Mirrorball' makes me weep. Anyone who missed the live performance of the album 'Seldom Seen Kid' performed with the BBC concert orchestra really did miss a treat. It's available on DVD. I famously badger friends into hearing stuff that I know they'll like eventually! Mrs drib bought me a box set which includes an audio CD and a DVD of this specific performance and it is a jem. One of the bonus features of the DVD is a running commentary by the whole band. It gives you a real insight to the personalities of each member, the finite intricacies of the performance and the deliciously dry sense of humour they all share. Also, they are all real gentlemen with a deep respect for each other and everyone involved with this show, it's brilliant. I would recommend that from here, you go to 'Cast Of Thousands'. The last track 'Grace Under Pressure' is pure Genesis but with a lovely break beat. I remember hearing this song for the first time whilst driving home late one night up the M1. After the intro', a Hammond organ fades in gently which nailed it for me in the 'alone with my thoughts, late night, spine tingling department.' There's a lot of Salty Dog era Procol Harum about their sound. But with simpler lyrics. Very good indeed. Ah, good. I hoped you would think that. Precisely why I linked you 'Tower Crane Driver'.
