Season's Greetings

Recommended Posts

Here's to a wonderful Christmas and Festive season break to all the lovely TF1 friends on here.

In true Brad fashion, come the festive season, I have to complain again....I'm sorry I could'nt buy you any presents as it is the 23rd Dec and yes, I have'nt gotten paid yet. lovely is'nt it. Something to do with the international bank screwing up tranfers etc etc. We should take these moments in life with a smile, who knows, we'de might just not have a Christmas at all. I just bloody hope there's something b4 the clocks strikes 12 on the 24th... If not, can someone send me some of those lovely bonus monies you received (joke)

Enjoy your Christmas's everyone, and remember, it's the Lord's birthday, so Murray, pay your respects!

 Well, Brad, I already paid 13 quid to go see a Graham Kendrick (you know, the evangelical nutcase) carol concert at the local cathedral. I liked the music but lo and behold, half way through he insists on talking about Christianity and, what's worse, charity! Why do Christians always ruin Christmas like that? Needless to say I demanded a refund: my ticket ain't putting no Indian orphan through school. Bah humbug.

Btw the best presents are free. Like my posts. Or, for the more pious amongst us, a poem by someone whose 400th birthday passed this month. Many people think John Milton was a better poet than Shakespeare, despite going blind before writing his best stuff. He was an important figure in the Protestant reformation and a lot of his poems are about reconciling his suffering with his faith in God. I've probably posted this poem before but it's a good 'un, because it ties together how his blindness stops him doing anything productive (he can only 'stand and wait') with his Protestant belief that you get to heaven through God's grace alone, not through good deeds, which he couldn't do because of his disability.

On His Blindness

When I consider how my light is spent

Ere half my days in this dark world and wide,

And that one Talent which is death to hide

Lodged with me useless, though my soul more bent

To serve therewith my Maker, and present

My true account, lest He returning chide,

"Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?"

I fondly ask. But Patience, to prevent

That murmur, soon replies, "God doth not need

Either man's work or his own gifts. Who best

Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state

Is kingly: thousands at his bidding speed,

And post o'er land and ocean without rest;

They also serve who only stand and wait."

Indeed.

Thanks Brad, now you have gone and made me all confused - which is quite easy really!!

I see Christmas as a time to spend with your loved ones - something Christianity has to answer for which is not on the negative side of things!! But without getting into too much and making this a religious thread, full respect to my fellow posters and wishing you all the best for 2009 - yes Fed Up, even you!!

I still don't like McLaren though.

On His Blindness

When I consider how my light is spent...

That bl**dy poem.... my English teacher got us to memorise it when I was about 13 and expected us to spout it word-perfect. I can still remember it now - well that and a few dirty limericks...

Oh bollocks! And there I was waiting for you with the mistletoe around my co.................. ..................ermmm...................Merry Christmas!

Well, merry Xmas to everyone. Have a nice time, y'all. As for me, I'll try to prove that mistletoes don't work.

Of course it does. If they are proving a little too resistive to its charms, tie the mistletoe to a stick and beat them over the head with it. Hey ho, problem solved.

Wait...........you are using this on women aren't you :eusa_think::whistling:

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all, I hope you all have a great time and that Santa brings the pressies you asked for.

And if anyone has kids, try the Norad Tracks Santa site, kids and adults love it
